I'm extremely disappointed

not that we lost, I figured we would lose this game. I'm disappointed in how we lost. Of course, the defense was beyond horrible. Worst defensive performance at State since early 2004. Not only do we lack talent, something we already knew, but we also lack coaching, which is extremely upsetting. We hire a new DC and he proceeds to stink up the joint big time. I guess we should have known based on his most recent performance. We are going to get creamed all year long if something isn't done. It's one thing for the defense to struggle because of the talent, it's another for the coaching to be so terrible.

I'm also disappointed in the playcalling and our failure to get the ball into our playmakers hands save Dixon. While Auburn is totally confusing our defense with misdirection and with whom will get the ball on a particular play, we are busy running it up the gut predictably. I get that our QBs suck, our OL is suspect, and our best player is our starting RB. I get that. However, we are not going to line up and run it up the gut on any decent SEC team this season and win. Where was Bumphis? Where are the crazy plays that confuse the defense? I mean, if we are going to lose let's at last do it while being creative with the playcalling. We have been far too vanilla this season for my tastes. There's definately merit to riding Dixon. The problem is, once the D figures out that we are going to ride Dixon, the lack of OL talent is going to make it difficult for Dixon when the D keys in on him.

I'm disappointed that this season will again be depressing. I figured 4 wins, so the lack of wins won't upset me. The thing that will upset me is watching State suck at defense and be relatively vanilla (realize that any comparison to Croom will yield unfair results) on offense. Getting beat 49-24 by a team that really shouldn't be scoring 49 points on you is aggravating. What is even more aggravating is it felt, in some ways, a lot like the last time a new MSU coach faced Auburn. That was 2004, and much like that game, our defense looked totally outmatched. Of course, the difference that time was purely talent, but nonetheless it sucks that we are still at square one after so many years. Ah, the life of a State fan. Oh well, at least special teams is much improved.

The only part I really disagree with is, I think Leon Berry is our best player. Call me crazy, and maybe I'm giving him too much credit after two games, but I've been really impressed with him. He needs the ball in his hands more. Everyone talks about Bumphis, Heavens, and/or Dixon in the wildcat, but if we do it, I want to see Berry back there. Jump on the bandwagon before it gets full.

I've said it before, and I continue to believe that Dixon is the most over-rated player to ever play at State. He's good, but I've just never understand all the praise he gets. With the talent he has, he should be much better than he is.

Dixon is two TDs away from being our all time scorer and 600 yards (before tonight) from being our all time rusher is the reason everyone seems to praise him.

When someone like torbussh or Bill Clay badk in the day is calling the game...what re they thinking when the other team has 35 or 40? Don't they ever just say "F it...let's blitz."

What have you got to lose?

He should go hom etonoight and think"THAT ain't happening to me again. I don't care if I have to blitz every play."

but he won't. That is what is frustrating.

He's also gotten more carries than any other back ever has if I'm not mistaken, and if its not the most, he's right up there. I'm not saying he sucks. He's obviously gotten enough out of all those carries to put him in position to have those records. I just don't think he has lived up to his talent and the hype he had coming out of high school.

"All the talent the guy has." What? People act like Dixon has all-world talent on par with Jerious yet has squandered it all in college. The guy is a bruiser type back and has filled that role well. The only thing I've ever griped at him over was his tendency to dance, but I must admit that part of that was due to the offense he played in. While I would not put him ahead or even with Jerious despite his career totals, I will say he should be considered among our better RBs in school history. The guy has been the only offensive weapon for most of his career, don't forget that. He's done what he's been asked to do. He played 3 years for one of the worst OCs in SEC history and people gripe at him? It just doesn't add up.

Dixon is the most overrated rb to ever wear the maroon and white. the only reason he is about to break these records is because of our ****** recruiting which allowed him to play as a freshman. I can honestly say that I would take Jerious, Dicenzo, Michael Davis and probably fat *** dontae before i would want dixon. Think about it, how many MSU running backs would you take before Dixon?

Not one of our best, but still a good back who has done a good job for us over the years. I don't think he's overrated. Despite the fact that he'll probably be leading most of our rushing records by the end of this year, no one really seems to consider him a top MSU back. And that's about right. He's not as good as Norwood or a handful of other "great" MSU backs. But he's a good player. Possibly our best, and he's done a good job considering the offense he's been playing in his entire career.

If anything, Dixon has a gripe with Croom and McCorvey for running behind those craptastic o-lines. A lot of people don't talk about the fact that he has really good hands and is actually one of our better receivers. He also has great speed in the open field- if he can get there. If he does, there aren't many who can catch him. He also can jump over people like it's nothing.

My only gripe is him not using his size more, but that's really about it.

my apologies, JJ should have been included. My whole point was that Dixon although serviceable, when comparing him with other backs (besides yards and td's), he wouldn't be considered in the top 10 as far as talent wise

he "also has the most touches" and claim that is the only reason he will own so many records at state. i look at it differently. he got those yards behind a terrible offensive line, terrible and predictable play calls, and he hasn't gotten hurt often in the process. his numbers would be crazy with a good O line and some variability in the calls during his first three years with Crooms.

Why the 17 are we still running the same plays that Croom would have run? Even if you have grandma and grandpa playing for you at least try some innovative ****!! Please explain to me why Mullen is playing Croom ball. And don't tell me it is the talent. If you are losing anyways don't run the ball up the gut over and over again. Does State have some playbook that the coaches HAVE to use that involves running it up the gut? Why is Chizick who is a defensive minded coach running all these creative plays and Mullen the Spread master and NC ring bearer, running it up the mother 17ing gut???? Damnit it all to hell. Auburn's plays looked creative and fun, State's plays were the same **** from the Croom years.

I heard the tv announcers referred to Relf as TEBOWISH!!! TELL ME THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!

With Auburn you never knew who had the ball and where they were going. Meanwhile MSU is running vanilla stuff. I'm so tired of watching a vanilla offense. If we are going to lose I'd rather do it while using our best players (even if they miss blocks and assignments) and putting those players in a position to win. MSU cannot line up and run up the gut on any SEC team and win this year. If we don't get creative we might go 0-8.

My thoughts after last night's game. The Chizik hire is going to leave a lot of people with egg on their faces. This guy was the hottest commodity in college football 3 years ago. He didn't forget how he got to that point at Iowa State. He just did what so many other coordinators do, and didn't pick his spot. He jumped the gun and tarnished his resume in the process. He walked into a pretty good situation at Auburn and he made it better by building a pretty good staff. I would not be surprised at all if they are playing for the SECW Championship in this year's Iron Bowl. In my opinion, Mullen has made a similar mistake by taking the MSU job. While he wasn't nearly as hot as Chizik, he would have had some job offers at places where he could win come along if he had been patient. Only problem with him is, there will not be an Auburn waiting to pick him up when he realizes in a couple of years he's in a place where he can't win consistently.

"WTF" nature of his hire. The expectations on him are so low, that any success is magnified. In reality, the guy can probably get it done, to a degree, in a place where talented players overcome coaching ignorance (see, The Mad Hatter). I look for AU to continue to improve.

Game number two and the pissing and moaning starts. Hell, after last years game I was not disappointed. Dixon looked great, Lee comes in a throws a TD in the red zone after Relf go down for a play. The receivers look promising across the board as well as the running backs. Special teams did a great job with the exception of the fake punt. By the way, we do have a real punter now. We know this, more offensive lineman needed, defensive pass coverage needed. Defensive coaching needed after last night. Mullin will repair this problem. Now, this time last year we were bitching about a 3-2 loss, third down blunders, lousy punter, no offense, no kicker ect. What a difference a year makes and the right coach. Thanks Greg Bryne for the right hire.
