Based on a lot of the youth football coaches I have known and observed over the years, I would feel worse, not better!

That would not at all apply to the prospective coach in question. He'd be an excellent hire.

Bones,

Just saying those are huge factors in hiring the head coach. Can't ignore them.
I would say deal killers. That and having to create a job are obstacles.
For the record the posted job mentions an in house possition is a possibility...so it is obviously been discussed internally.

I would think that may mean teacher, permanent sub, but you may be right.

Spartanalum,

You are probably right, but a job in the school isn't guaranteed from what I hear.

I am pretty sure most of SFs head coaches were in the building but Larry Pawelski wasn't. I think Pawelski was a teacher at a CCL school and commuted for a few years and then finally got a job in the building. I think he quit teaching and wanted to keep his football job and the school said no.

Mastendrea was my head coach and he taught PE. He is now an assistant AD at Glenbard West.

Sure nothing is guaranteed but they obviously have "spots" in mind for the right guy.

JC,

I was just told by a really reliable source McMillan is not being considered for the job anymore.

Probably would be a great head coach somewhere and his all star staff could certainly bring in talent but maybe not the right fit for a program like St Francis. I don't mean that as a slight to either side.

I hope your secret source this time is better then the one that told you the Oswego schools were joining the DVC.
You want his source to be accurate? That will only make WWS more irrelevant, maybe you should rethink that.

Not sure who your "reliable" source is but Ive been told by the "inside" its McMillen's or they will restart the search again. The committee was not happy with the other candidates....

Bling, gdfther,
Confirmed report from both sides. Mc is out of the running for the job. No one is talking details, but Spartan and Ghost were on the money. I thought it would be a great fit, hopefully they find a quality coach for the kids and the school.

My source was from someone in direct contact with with the AD. I never said he was getting the job I just know as of this morning he was still a candidate

Quick comment: Situations like this also play poorly in an area that many don't consider from the get go...the coaching culture. "The coaches" that are making their way up the ladder to become head coaches are watching. When an institution goes to these extremes under the premise of "Getting it right", it often indicate a far deeper institutional problem. Result is many potential candidates shy away from applying. Shame. StF has some good young men and families. Nice facility and location. They could have a great program.

They gotta find the right fit, should they just settle for someone they don't think is right for the job? For all we know that is exactly what they did last time and the guy almost buried the program in a year. No indictment on any candidate by me but if SF doesn't feel they are right for the job then maybe they're right.

Afraid we'll have to agree to disagree.

The right fit may have already shied away. StF could be a great program. Plenty of room with those folks in Wheaton for all 3 schools and their respective activities. Right now they're behind. In 2 weeks they're way behind! Other area programs are picking student athletes off as we speak. Think about this question: "Why would you even consider attending St. Francis? They don't have a coach?! They can't keep a head coach?!!"

It doesn't speak well for the administrative culture. Sad...

I don't disagree at all, but in THIS SEARCH, if they deem none of the candidates are fit then what? They hire another disaster because they don't want to turn off a future candidate who will surely be turned off by another dumpster fire. They have to get this right even if they alienate good candidates in the process.

CCL clinic is this Saturday at the school you support. If I put $20 down that the situation at StF will be a topic of conversation over pizza, the coaches WON'T do it just to spite me. ;) That said, coaches talk...and coaches suggest/mentor/guide...and Francis is a situation that may fit into the "Lots of potential, but not the best situation over there right now." area.

And now the answer is to run away to the Meter conference...or whatever it's called.

Maybe they should look in the mirror and ask themselves "Why are we in THIS SEARCH?" Do a little self scouting and ask themselves why the quality area coaches are staying away.

And why do they continue to find themselves in the same search. It's "Ground Hog Day" on Roosevelt Road, just east of Cantigny and the endless search for the St. Francis version of Bill Belichick is hurting a lot of good young men & families enrolled in that school.

Bottom line, they should've kept Fitz. The guy in his first year brought them to a semi final? Or Quarter? (Doesnt matter - both great) and beat the breaks off of Montini. I was at that game and I've never seen such a disheveled sideline. Broncos (A state runner up that year) didnt know what hit them!

When they got wind about him leaving for the pay day at NN they should've matched it!

You're arguing the same point and I'm not saying you're wrong. Complete dumpster fire over there, they have no one to blame but themselves. Now how do you fix it? If you don't see a candidate worthwhile what do you do? Obviously that's where we are at RIGHT NOW, forget the past and look forward, should they just hire someone they don't think is the right fit? Or do you suggest they just cancel the program?

How do you suppose they should of matched the pension that comes along with the pay at NN?

We don't agree often but if NN comes calling and Fitz is legitimately ok with going from HC to OC there's nothing SF can do except hope he doesn't steal your star WR lol.
