Today I learned that the Auburn Tigers are calling this the "payback" game for us. Does anyone know how many teams go on the road and say they are going to pay back the home team? I know that we will do it when La. Tech comes next year to Starkville. And I know someone will chime in about that Auburn can do that because they are playing us. But let's think about it. They don't have Quinton Groves. They don't have 3 year starter Brandon Cox. They got some injuries on the offensive line and with a few running backs and receivers. They have a JUCO transfer who has NEVER played in a road game in the SEC(with the exception of Vandy, cause Commodore Stadium doesn't count). Everyone knows that this game is huge for MSU and judging by the great crowd for SEL, you can expect and will see a packed house.
I want us all to go back to those late 90's teams, who ruled Auburn for 4 straight years, and remind yourself that we CAN play with these guys. Last year I called the victory at Auburn and got blasted by everyone. I do know we are honoring the 98 team and they will probably say something to the team to fire them up, and I've not heard if Jackie will be there. If so, expect the curse on Ears. Everything is coming into place. We all know how Tubby plays from the Ole Miss days, so we have to expect the unexpected and make sure he doesn't put us on our heals. Last year, Croom did it to him with early interceptions and stunts on defense. Ball control will be the key to this game. With that said, I've had enough of those idiots and let it be known, STATE WILL WIN THIS GAME. There! I said it for the 2nd year in a row! Now, who is brave enough to stand with me, or do you want to keep on expecting the same old mediocracy of the past as "We can't beat Auburn." Join me and we'll relish this victory come Monday.
P.S. They've got a punt returner who we aren't punting to. Well, we've got one to and I hope they punt to him.
<17> an Auburn!</p>

i was reluctant since i unfortunately watched the damn LaTech game. but my feeling is Croom doesn't even have to speak to get the team fired up about this one. i think if carrol can get into a rythm in this game we will win it late.

/also...thanks for the pep talk. i will now commence to tackling the next person that walks into my office.

I think it's more the case that we don't have a punter that can punt it that far.

is known for his shanks to intentionally aim for the sideline. It won't end well I'm afraid.

at your house last year" speech to give. They should be motivated to play, but we should also. Before I watched the LaTech game I thought we had a good chance to win this game.

...I think we'll be as ready to play as we can be. First SEC game + First time on National TV on Sat. night at home in a long time + Expected good crowd + We know we need to get one back. They'll be ready as well, and they are at least a little bit overrated. I think (hope) we are done getting blown out at home. I think it'll be close going into the 4th, and the question will be whether or not we make the plays to get it done at that point.

we'll win. I feel that the crowd needs to get mad, like these so-called upper echelon programs do, when we should be beating a team. I feel that everyone on this board is afraid! If we are sitting our scared asses in the stands waiting on the loss, then why the hell do we show up? I promise you this, if we go into that stadium with the same sense that our football team has, then it will radiate in Davis-Wade. Just remember how it felt during that 100 yard return by AJ against Bama. WE BEAT THIS TEAM LAST YEAR. And we have more starters back from the team this team than Auburn. Come on, who's with me. Let's get it going Saturday night. Get out of the damn Junction and into your seat at least 20 minutes before kickoff, just like they do at Auburn.

and we're one of the 8 games to watch this weekend:
Auburn has a new quarterback, a new offensive coordinator, a new defensive coordinator, has looked mediocre in two wins thus far and they are favored by two scores in a road game. This makes zero sense to me. Granted State has looked horrible, but even when State wins they look horrible. How could you not take MSU here?
so clearly he hasn't dealt with the all-to-common destruction of expectations like some of us, but I see his point.
(and I will be yelling at the TV for moral support, if it helps)

Call me crazy and I want to see who will disagree, but look at the record in this rivalry. It goes in series. Auburn won from 00 thru 05. State won from 96 thru 99. We won last year. We Are Do. Stop thinking like a typical Coach34 and get on the damn bus!

It's time to rise out of Coach34's condom and see the light of victory. I've had it with these <17>n Auburn elitist. The best sight I ever saw was in 96 when Bobby Lowder came out of the West Side money seats after watching Terry Bowden lose his team in a blow out by MSU. Nothing would make me happier than to see Ears take it on the chin once again. He's such a douche bag!

Having lived here in Auburn since February (after living in Wetumpka for 5 years), I have found the people to be very friendly and they don't even hassle me when I wear MSU shirts, etc, but will often ask me about it and start talking football, etc. In the last week I've really had a chance to talk to a lot of the locals, as well as listen to local sports talk radio station. The Aubs don't have the blatant arrogance of the Bama folks, but they (most anyway) are absolutely convinced that State will not even play them close. They point out (rightfully so) USM would not have been as close had Auburn not had critical turnovers. On the afternoon talk show callers have been predicting scores like 31-0, 44-7 and such, with some being more objective and saying things like 17-10, 27-24, etc. Bottom line is they fully believe their team this year is far superior to us. They could, in fact actually be that much better, but I'm not seeing it that way. Had we not lost several key players (injuries and the gun snafu) who should have been playing this year, we would be right there with Auburn and most other SEC teams. As it is, we have more youth that must grow up quickly. I'm not predicting who will win, but I'll be surprised and disappointed if game is not real close. If we have less turnovers than they do we have a legit chance. I'll be there to see it for myself. Incidently, I work with the mother of one of Auburn's starting defensive players (not going to say name here). She told me yesterday she's "just hoping for a road win".

Dude, I know where you are coming from. I have been gone from MS for many years. It is very difficult to be a State fan out of MS. No respect, the questions like "Why?". It makes you want a victory that much more. Even when we are 1-9 heading into the Arkansas game, I will be fired up like yourself.

However, since I have no emotional attachment to this game. I see the game being very similar to the LaTech game. We will keep it close with defense for awhile. Even look good on offense for a series or two. However, at some point, we will give up a long punt return and lose field position. We will lose field position because we do not block well on punt return or kick returns. AU will be playing with a much shorter field than us most of the night. That will be the difference. Maybe AU has some turnovers to offset that.

That being said, I think our team shows up this weekend. I think the final score will be within a touchdown or less.
