... are 0-9 against them recently. Man, that is really unbelievable. What a way to start the SEC season.

Predicting a 9-21 SEC record.

Although, I was thinking 5-7 for football.

more confident if it wasn't against one of the top 3 teams in the country on the road. Hell I think thebest any team could really hope for would be to take one.

if we win 2 of 3. I would be shocked. Personally, I'm just hoping we don't take 3 serious beatdowns this weekend. I think this weekend could be an ugly wake-up call for a lot of us.

I'd be somewhat surprised to win one (shocked to win anything more). The wake-up call wouldn't apply to me as I've gotten used to being pounded by them (and it sucks as I have an arrogant *** Vandy fan from MS working in my office).

Vandy is way better than us, and they should sweep the series. If we win 1 I will be happy because I don't expect us to win any this weekend. I'm much more interested to see how we do against Auburn the next weekend. If we get swept at home by them or lose 2 out of 3, then I will be concerned. </p>

I don't care if they are the #1 team in the country, we should be able to win one game at home.

The beatdown Sunday will by epic. Obviously no one who follows college baseball expects us to compete worth a **** in this series anyway, so at least Cohen has that going for him.

Even if we were at home I would still expect a sweep. I never said I was ok with a sweep, I just said I wouldn't put on the panic meter yetif we lost all 3. Vandy is very good. We will probably lose all 3, especially since we are in Nashville. But again, I think the Auburn series will be more telling of where we are as a team instead of the Vandy series. We aren't at the point where we can hang with Vandy, but we are at the point to where we should be able to hang with Auburn.

who has moved back and forth some from 2nd to 3rd start has been less than stellar. With luck, we might score 2-3 on him. Maybe we should start Stratton opposite him (based on Vandy guy's comments, their #3 will probably start Sunday).

..they are definitely going to have to get swept by Vanderbilt.

Personally, I have no idea how you can predict a team that has already won 14 out of 18 games played is just going to win 9league games out of 30league games left to play (not countingMayor's Cup).

Auburn, Alabama, UPig, Ole Miss & Tenn. are no better than MSU this year.Win those series alone & you already have 10 league wins.

South Carolina, Florida & LSU are @ Dudy Noble.

If Cohen only wins 9 league games with this team & this schedule, I think you'll see John Cohen himself resigning @ the end of the year, becauseit will be clear toJohn Cohen that it just ain't working.

If we can get that to 3 series wins and only 2 sweeps, we will have somewhere around 12 to 13conference wins, which is double what we had last year. I hate getting swept, but we aren't talented enough all the way around to beat some of these teams. Vandy, LSU, SCand Florida are all significantly better thanus.I would love to take series from UT, Georgia, Auburn, and Bama. That would be good for us.

Stratton will give us a chance and Jones hasn't given us much reason to doubt him. We have enough arms in the pen to hold a lead for a few innings. We just can't afford to pitch 5 guys friday night and still lose.

and I think we will have a respectable showing, but we still may lose all three. Vandy has a Friday night pitcher- Sonny Gray- that is probably a first round pick.

We're actually statistically better as a hitting team than they are- and the only respectable teams that Vandy has played are Stanford and one game against San Diego State, and we have twice as many home runs than they do.

On paper, it looks to be a low scoring series. But that doesn't really mean much.

To me, the key is to pitch well, play good defense, and make sure that we manufacture runs whenever we get the chance. Especially against Gray.

In some ways, it may be good to get this one out of the way early. The team will have a week off to rest and make any corrections after this series.

That should be your cue that you're being a homer. There is no evidence thus far this year that Ole Miss is better than MSU.

I think we are better than MSU this year but you are right there is nothing you can point to for proof of that right now. Call that one a push. But Arkansas is in the top 15 and Auburn is ranked. So besides a homer MSU fan, who else would say there is no difference between "Upig, Auburn, and MSU this year"?

I apologize if you weren't being a homer. Guess I'm just used to seeing people like Bruiser post homerrific ****.

And I sort of agree about Arkansas and Auburn, especially considering our recent history. But this year, it seems Vandy, Florida and LSU are the cream of the crop, with alot of the other teams dropping games to (allegedly) subpar opponents. I'm hoping MSU has closed the gap. That's my rationalization.

No problem. We can't hit at all so I imagine we will find ourselves being a #2 or #3 seed somewhere. I don't think we are very good and MSU could very well win a series against us. Arkansas is a top 15 team though so I just thought it was funny Ronny was calling that one a toss up along with saying that MSU could get 10 wins out of the 5 series he named if they just won all of them. Vandy, Florida, LSU, and SC are up there at the top of the league. Then you have Arkansas and maybe Auburn. Then you have the rest of the teams that don't really know what they have yet besides Georgia. They suck.

So it will probably three 2-1 games(or close to it) and I think we could easily get one at least. I dont think thats overly optimistic. I thought auburn was not as good so far as projectedthis year and lost a couple or am I confusing them with bama?

at Vanderbilt (0-3)
Auburn (2-1)
at Georgia (1-2)
Florida (0-3)
at Arkansas (1-2)
South Carolina (1-2)
Alabama (1-2)
at Tennessee (2-1)
at Ole Miss (1-2)
LSU (0-3)

As a State Fan/Alumni, I have been disappointed so much that I learned to set my goals low, so that I get happily surprised at the end of the season if we do better. :)

they have 6 games of their 18 that they have scored 4 runs or less and in 5 of those they scored 3 runs or less. Also, they've only scored over 7 runs 5 times and only 1 of those times was it against a decent team (Stanford). We will likely at least be in all the games its just a matter of will we be able to get the timely hit to score just enough to pull out a game or two.

Vandy will take 2 of 3. And that will be a good showing by us. We won't get swept. Saturday winner sandwiched between a tough loss on Friday and a beatdown on Sunday.

If you think we haven't played anyone, you should check Vandy's schedule.

If we can't hit weak teams' fri guy ...we ain't hitting Sonny Gray... he is #5 draft prospect. ...his curve is plus+plus
I agree Sat we better have our best lineup in and Stratton will have to be lights out ...we might steal ONE
If we could throw well sunday, which we haven't ...their sunday guy is a SR ...you have to give them the edge

And in October 2010 they played 2 12-inning games at Texas. WTF? When did they start letting teams do this? And why aren't we doing it?

We could do it, but those games would count against the 56 game limit- although they don't count against the regular season schedule.

I guess there are pros and cons to doing that.

to throw our rotation in reverse order? We're not winning tonight, so why waste Jones? Keep Stratton on Saturday - that's the one we feel we may can win anyway. Then should have a good shot at Sunday with our ace on the mound. I know it's unconventional, but ****...If I was in Cohen's shoes, I'd be trying anything that I thought would help me increase my win total.
