In some ways, I think that was "the beginning of the end" in terms of a lot of the sheep with Polk. Before that, they were all talking about "Wait till Polk gets his players in", and of course those WERE his players, and as you said we were #1, and we basically hung Valentine out to dry. Valentine was not that bad before that, but I don't think he ever recovered from that one outing. I feel bad for Valentine. He had to know that he had nothing left in the gas tank, and I'm sure he felt absolutely helpless. Honestly, and I'm very competitive as a person, but I have to believe that if it was me, and I saw no one in the bullpen and the coaches not even thinking about coming out to get me, I would have to fake an injury or something, only to try to keep my team from losing. What Polk did to him that night was utterly disgusting.
