I was walking back towards fraternity row last night. A male and female Ole Miss cheerleader were walking in the same direction. I remember thinking that was kind of brave, but the whole way from the stadium, nobody said a word to them. They walked into one of the fraternity houses. Sure a few people rang cowbells as they walked by, but I was really kind of surprised.

Based on that, I am calling BS on the original post.

Their tuba players were making moo noises. I thought it was funny, but maybe your friend was asking for it. There's another side to this story that you prob don't know.

I have walked out of many an SEC stadium, including lovely Oxford twice with BIG losses. I call BS on the bruise on the hip with the cowbell simply because if I were to hit someone with a cowbellPURPOSELY, I would not hit them in the hip. I'd hit them in the face. The bruise probably came from a handrail at best. I have walked through the campus of Ole Miss, LSU, and Alabama meeting friends before and after games completely dressed in a band uniform. I was taunted, cussed at, flipped off, then offered food from tailgaters. It's a normal thing to happen, but walking out of the stadium last night and seeing the band mosy along NOT in a block formation, instead more like we do when we leave a stadium, in a completely unorganized mob going back to the bus hurt from a loss. <div>
</div><div>I've had beer spilled on me. I've been hit in the head with cups raining down from the stands above. Absolutely true. Every time it happened, it was at DWS after a big win. After wins, cups and drinks fly. It's normal and it happens at EVERY SEC stadium. If I were someone betting, I'd say some excited people threw cups in the air after a win. </div><div>
</div><div>All that to say this: I've seen a lot. I've been to every SEC stadium and then some in a band uniform, even by myself and I can almost assure you with every ounce of confidence, your friend's son's experience was that of a hurt fan watching their team get beat badly (I went through the same thing walking out of VH in '08). I have not once, after a win or loss, been assaulted, spat on, abused, someone purposely throwing an object at me, or anything similar at any school. It doesn't happen. And people would be even MORE stupid to do it around a huge group like a band. Sorry, it doesn't happen. And I don't think it did last night. </div>

We waited for fans to clear out and police to help us get back to buses after games, but after we got out of the stadium, it was simply an unorganized mob walking back nonchalantly back to the bus. Drunk fans yelled stuff at us occasionally, but it I never once felt threatened at any stadium we visited after a win or a loss. I have left hurt, frustrated, mad, disbelief (Florida), but never once felt threatened by rabid fans waiting outside our gate to assault us, spit on us, etc.

And I say that because I witnessed it personally. Me and a buddy of mine were exiting the stadium right beside whereOle Miss'band sits. My friend is an Ole Miss grad and hehad red and blue on, but like any logical human being, he is frustrated with the entireadministration, fromchancellor all the way down, over at Ole Miss. So frustrated that he wore a "Beat Ole Miss" sticker and even took a few pictures ringing a cowbell for fun. He knew we were going to kill them, and was a great sport about everything all day long. I tell you this because it was this frustration with his team that he has that led to him cussing out his own band for harassing State fans as they exited the stadium. We rounded the corner and my friend saw how his school's band were shouting and cursing the State fans exiting the stadium and he absolutely flipped out. He started cursing and grabbing his shirt (insinuating that he was an Ole Miss fan) and screaming "get the 17 on the bus!!!". When the Ole Miss bands members realized that one of their own were calling them out for being classless, it was like someone threw gas on a bonfire. They went absolutely insane with anger. It's that kind of blind anger that makes people like your friend's daughter or whoever make up complete and total lies just for hate's sake.

I was just upset because my longtime friend was upset. Was not there to witness this incident so it may be hearsay...but I had to say something.

I myself am a graduate of MSU, a former member of the Famous Maroon Band, and now work for MSU. I have had the same seats at Davis Wade for 15 years now and have held season tickets in all three major sports(baseball, basketball, football) for several years at one time but now it is mainly football. I have been to Death Valley and been cussed, etc. I've also been soaked by beer at Scott Field. Did I get upset when soaked? No...I just took it in stride because it was a football game.I am about a diehard fan as you can get but I do respect our opponents.

Moderator if you don't mind please delete this thread. We have more important things to discuss like the upcoming bowl game and the current basketball season.

I don't care how well you know this woman who was not anywhere near the game. These "urban legends" sprout anytime a Confederate comes to campus. None of what you say happened with the Ole Miss band either in the stadium or on their way to their buses. Now, will we spend the next several weeks hearing about the mayhem that ensued following the game? Of course we will and by the time you heard it all if you stop and think for a second you will realize that the junction would have come closer to resembling the Battle of Shiloh had only half of it happened. But please go ahead and get sucked in by your band nerd friend.

How do you get enough beer into Davis-Wade Stadium to have these unprovoked soakings? It seems like such a waste to bootleg copius amounts of beer into a football stadium to then pour on folks including, in this case, large amounts on the Ole Miss band. Did the perpetrator save a half a case or so just to pour it on the band? Fairy tales are fun to tell but they fall apart quickly when you think about it. Alice really didn't go to Wonderland.

The beer was kind of a tip-off that some of it had been exaggerated.. who is sneaking beer in?<div>

to keep their women from going home with a man that does not talk with a lisp, have their manis and pedis done, or wear neck scarfs. Also, I think your post is absolute horseshit.

We tailgate across from stadium gate the um band exited. Fans were ringing cowbells at them. One of the um drummers threw a drumstick at the crowd. Missed my grandson about 5 feet, we had no cowbell and were not heckling. Had they hit my grandson I can guarantee an incident would have occured. I was on the field for the game and walked out beside the um band. NOTHING occured that I saw.

But what I can't see is people sneaking enough beer in to have enough left over at the very end of the game to throw on the band. Really? That's ********. People who sneak booze into the game drink it and if it's beer they are going to drink all of it.

walk right past McArthur Hall after the game in a driving rain. Yes, I did flip them off and gave them a "go to hell Ole Miss" and they returned the compliment.

it was raining hard and i was walking fast but this is exactly what i saw. they were kind of spread out over a decent area, definitely not in block formation. i heard a state fan across the road yelling "hotty toddy!" and a kid, possibly 11 or 12 yelled "go to hell ole miss!", which i found pretty funny and even turned to see the kid that yelled it. some members of the band were yelling back at these fans but most of them appeared to be laughing and talking about getting to the bus quickly because it was raining. there were police around but i figured it was to stop traffic so they could make it across the street. i walked around them and headed on up the hill to the sounds of "hotty toddy bitches!" from several state fans waiting in line across the street for the shuttle. based on what i saw i don't believe anyone was physically assaulted. verbally...without a doubt.

You snuck in enough to last you the whole game? I can't see even getting by with more than two the way they make you open up your stuff now. Not even worth the effort to me.<div>
</div><div>But yes, I agree. I can't see people sneaking in that much if they do, and certainly not enough to have it left over.

not to mention the directive the players had when I was in school. Keep your helmet on to protect yourself with your head down so you don't get hit with flying whiskey bottles when leaving the filed headed to the locker room. We wlaked out about the same time as the UM bad and I can say they were not in a block formation of any kind
