I'm not sure Greg could handle the SEC.
He made some great moves in Starkville. But how hard was it to hire the NC offensive cord, or John Cochen? Those were no brainers. He did raise alot of money and bring the alumni together but how hard was that when the last AD couldn't return a email? And 50 % of the alumni hated LT.

Now my view, we have never been cheated like we were this year. 3 football games in question. 2 UK games we completely stolen. I never heard a word from him. Moore , Foley and Skip would have gone ape Shiz if they had three football game decided like we did.

He should have gone to the press after Football season with specific requests concerning Rodgers Redding. The man didnt think HD was a better TV view for heavens sakes.

We need a tough AD with the Stones not only to hire and fire but to fight the SEC big boys. If not just keep quite like Stansbury said last week.

Bring back The Kang. He's not afraid. I would even take Polk for a while. He would fight for the kids for sure. He would at least say what needs to said.

The best thing I can say for the guy is that he did a very good job of keeping track of the pulse of your fanbase.

In the internet age, it's not really that hard to do, but he made it a priority. He seems to understand that the athletic department he runs belongs to the fans, not to him. That's a good thing. When you realize you're working for the fans and act accordingly, you'll make people happy. When you talk down to fans and act like you know better than them, you will alienate them (Boone). Byrne never got a chance to get out of the honeymoon stage at MSU, so it's hard to say what would've happened if one of his coaching hires went south and how he'd have reacted to that, but he is responsive and forward thinking.

You can only hope you can find someone else with young blood that thinks the same way. The old guard in college athletics needs to be ushered out.

That said, hire Ron Polk. I think he'd be great for you...or at least us.

Hell...you could probablytake up a collection from all you OM types to help pay the salaries of those two.

Bobby Hall. He is the AD at Madison Central. He's qualified.
Yeah, and Coach thought Richard Duease, a freaking academy coach, was actually up for the head job in basketball. Let's just hire all high school coaches

And OM could consistently beatMSUfor 5th best in the West. I think UM really needs MSU to have a good athletic director to make sure Boone isn't the one replacing Nutt or Bianco, although you may have a while before either of those things happens.

You may be right. I still think Boone is going to retire fairly soon though, and hopefully we can do it right that time.

to understand.

If Ron Polk wasn't a baseball coach, he would be a cult leader.

I think the problem is we have a lot of baseball fans that live in what I call the Bermuda Golden Triangle. The only baseball that they see is MSU, New Hope and Tupelo and they think those are elite baseball programs. They may see Ole Miss, but they they think Ole Miss being good 10 years in a row is a fluke, nevermind that's not the definition of a fluke. They have no idea about baseball or how to play it or how modern recruiting works, just that Ron wrote a book and he won a lot in the 80's, so therefore he knows everything about baseball. They think that we still have the elite baseball stadium in America, and generally have no clue. I saw a guy on Genespage bitching about Cohen using the F word in the dugout. That's the kind of mentality we're dealing with here- "I'd rather lose with a clean cut coach than win with a guy cussing".

It's like John Cohen said last year- we have a lot of fans that think that someone puts on a MSU baseball uniform and they become awesome. It doesn't work that way.

Thing is, what those fans don't realize is that one of the main reasons we are struggling is because of the players that Polk brought in. Yes, some of them can hit, and they see that and think that's because Polk brought them in and they are therefore good, although guys like Jet Butler and Russ Sneed didn't make marked improvement until Cohen came in. They don't look at the fielding percentage, and have no clue about how to evaluate baseball talent, or are in complete denial about the shortcomings of the players.

Understand that Polk was in charge for over 30 years, minus a few years of Pat McMahon, which were teams that were heavily influenced by Polk for the most part. His doctrine is so ingrained into our fans heads that a guy like Cohen coming in is a huge culture shock. It was like a dynasty ending in many ways. Polk sort of symbolized the "old" MSU and I think Cohen symbolizes the "new" MSU, much like Byrne and Mullen.

The Polk croonies only rear their heads when we have a weekend like we had recently. If we start to do well, they will keep quiet. Cohen does need time- the Polk croonies wanted at least five for Polk, which I actually think is too long for a baseball coach, regardless, they should give Cohen at least that much time if they are being fair, and because of the fact that Cohen inherited a losing team as opposed to a team coming off of a SR appearance like Polk II did, and the fact that Cohen has recruited well thus far.
