He won (a little) at Tech, that's it Never even won his division in 10 years. His defenses are always putrid, because he just doesn't care. Also because his Playstation attitude towards offense always puts his defense in a very difficult situation.
More to my point, he's an embarrassment. That whole pirate crap may have been cute at first, but now it's just sad. He's terrible with alumni, and thinks he's above anyone in administration. Basically he has an ego that he hasn't earned. You want him no where near your program.
The outside stuff is a good argument if you don't like Leach. Say he's a weird dude, or that he has an ego, or that he's bad with alums, but don't say he wouldn't do a good job at a school like one of ours. The argument that he doesn't win enough, is again, stupid. Look at Texas Tech's program historically. It's very similar to Ole Miss. He went to 10 bowl games in 10 years and won 8 games or more 8 times.
Who cares if he wins with offense or defense? At Ole Miss and MSU, many years we're wishing we had just one, and neither of us has ever had an elite offense and defense at the same time. At least Leach could guarantee one of them.
As to never winning his division. 1) He was at Texas Tech, at best the 4th strongest program in his division, fighting for that spot with Oklahoma State. Texas, Oklahoma, and A&M all have more tradition and more potential as programs. 2) In his 10 years at Texas Tech (2000-2009), a team from his division played in the national title game. Also in those 10 years, his team never finished worse than 4th in the division. (tied for 1st once, 2nd twice, 3rd 4 times, and 4th 3 times) So the majority of his years at Texas Tech, his team finished above where their program normally would rank in the division pecking order, and he never finished below that spot.
If you don't like him personally, that's one thing, but the guy wins, and both of our progams could do and have done much worse with almost every hire we've made.
