On Saturday, June 18, 2016, I attended the Dinwiddie High School graduation to watch my lone child receive her diploma. I knew the day would be an emotional one, but to see the football stadium packed beyond belief was unreal.

I realize this probably happens throughout the state, but to see our football coaching staff present and working to make the day special for our graduates says a lot for the leadership Coach Billy Mills instills.

Watching Coach Mills stand behind the stage and bear hug each of his graduating players (a huge one for his Valedictorian son Canaan) and congradulating the others made me realize just how lucky we are to have him in our county.

Lastly, upon walking out my daughter received numerous gifts from the "Cowbell Club" for her dedication and service to the Generals football program . All of these gifts were special, but the signed jersey and helmet put a smile on her face that can never be erased. Once again Coach Mills left an impression by his statement and signature on the jersey.

Yes, coach my family "Bleeds Navy" and always will.

Navy's daughter is truly an extrodinary young woman, and I'm proud to call her and her parents my friends.
She was dealt a lot of tough blows in her life, and could have just given in to her trials. But, not only did she persevere and overcome, she excelled and is an example for other kids to look to.

I know many of you get tired of hearing about how proud we are of our humble little community, but the truth is we have something special here in Dinwiddie. We are just plain old working people, trying to do the right thing. And I guess this is why we think so highly of Billy Mills. He sets a standard of behavior and citizenship that reflects what all communities want to be known for. His influence goes well beyond the football players he interacts with. His program has raised the bar for staff, facility, and students alike.

Hey Navy, you and your wife take a bow, too. Your daughter was able to develope into the beautiful, caring, giving, polite, wonderful person she is because she was fortunate enough to be the daughter of you two.

You know that since 2010 I have had the opportunity to be at LU and work the suite for all the teams that played in the state. I will say that the Dinwiddiie people were the nicest of all. Friendly and appreciative to what we ladies at Amherst and all other staff did. A couple of schools barely acknowledged us. Good job. I am also proud of the Amherst community as well

Thanks everyone, but I did not post to brag on my daughter. I was just awed by our coaching staff and coach mills response to all of the grads. So proud of Navy Nation.
