Deangelo Evans. That dude carried that team on his back into the B12 championship game. Despite athletic publigitis, basically the same injury as Westy last year.

Back in those days it was career ending, he tore his groin muscle from the bone.

I know he turned out to be a head case, but i believe that it was due to Frank riding him into the ground then discarding him when he didn't heal.

He would have been one of our all time greats if he stayed healthy

In all seriousness, and I know this post might get some heat, Lawrence Phillips in the 1994 game at Kansas State. Dude had a broken thumb and K-State knew he was going to get the ball almost every play. That week of practice, the defense was going light on him at first knowing he was going to have to be a bell cow that week and not wanting to aggrevate his thumb more. LP told them to not just not go easy on him, but to attack his bad hand knowing he had to be ready to absorb the pain come Saturday.

Also...
Jason Peter in 1996 for playing with a giant cast on his arm for the middle of the season.
Trev Alberts for coming back from dislocating his elbow in the 1993 Oklahoma game and dominating the 1994 Orange Bowl against Florida State.

Taylor Martinez. (I haven't forgotten the fumbles, interceptions, etc.) But I hate the way it ended for him. The guy would get absolutely blasted on a run play and just always seemed to get up, toss the ball to ref and get ready for the next play.

No memtion of the only 3rd string QB that I can think of to end up starting a game in a year he was listed as 3rd string? Could have made the Nebraska vs Florida game a 69-24 win instead of 62-24 when he did what the coaches asked of him and took a knee at the Florida 1 yard line to end the game.

Mr Matt Turman.

Kellogg started the Iowa game in 2013 after being third string.

Monte Cristo also started the Texas game in 1998 after being third string.

so many over the years, and have my favorites, but I don't know if anything that made me sadder than seeing Matt Herian after the broken leg against cu. the kid had star written all over him. Came back valiantly, but didn't ever have that step, again.

F.Colorado.
I think the Herian injury was against Mizzou. Agree, that was very sad when he got hurt and he never was the same.

That was against Missouri.
Edit: sorry I answered without reading the thread. I remember that pretty clearly for some reason.

Baron Miles and Shane Swanson. Also Brett Clark, Jimmy Williams, Kenny Walker, Marc Munford, Keith Jones, Dave Burke, and maybe one of the most underrated receivers of all time, Todd Brown, aka Mr. Clutch.

72 hours after the game and there's no good news about his hamstring. Assuming he's out, it's gonna be a long day unless Langsdorf gets creative with Fyfe. Or, Riley allows Darlington some snaps to change things up. I understand it's senior day, but win #9 is more important than a seniors feelings.

As far as toughest Husker; Zac Taylor is at the top of my list. Greg Austin isn't too far behind but I wish my memory was better to date back to the 60's & 70's.

I'm glad you brought up Deangelo....I was fortunate to teach him in ms and count him as a really good guy...I like Frank, but I feel like he caused that relationship to go south....wish we had a do over....
