Why would he choose us when he could go play for championships elsewhere?

I see the * but I don't think we will see near the flippin activity we have

become accustomed to the past few years. Big brother is watching them very, very, closely.

I like this guy. We need playmakers, and we typically don't get good WR's out of MS....so I consider this a big pick up. Also, for the star gazers, he could be a 4 star by the time February rolls around.

Super pickup...he'll play as a true freshman.

I think, and maybe I'm off my rocker, that he has NFL talent and if he works as hard as he possibly can, may be gone after his junior year.

Unfortunately in the SEC, it is bad. Really bad. With Jackson added, we've moved from 44th in the country and dead last in the SEC to 35th in the country and second to last in the SEC, 4 spots behind # 31 Missou. Since the only team behind us is USCe, we will likely have no net movement towards the "next level", and could in all likelihood, lag further behind.

There is more to being an SEC coach than Xs and O's, I'm afraid...

- Scout

Maybe Aeris and Jackson get their rightful bumps when these "talent scouts" get around to actually watching them play for the first time in the postseason all-star games**

Maybe there will be another Chris Jones in this class. Hopefully it won't be Darrius Liggins because he'll be in Oxford every weekend and the board would be unreadable.

I've watched JJ play for 3yrs now, I can tell you a few things about him. He is one of the hardest working young men you'll ever see play, he is a good kid-he don't showboat or act like a prima-Donna, he will fight for the football, actually go up and get it, and will catch darn near anything thrown his way, BUT don't expect a big movement in the stars as Petal runs the ball about 90% of the time, his opportunities are limited and rarely is he left alone in single coverage!

Ha! I'll give you that. I don't have a subscription to ESPN (and Rivals is a joke). Do we stand any better with them?

24/7 is the only option for this stuff at this point inside the state of MS, at least in the evaluations and constant updates/features. They don't do "wholesale" evaluations/changes like scout and rivals. They basically update guys' ratings every time they watch them play almost immediately...and they've got people going to actual games constantly, so it's in a state of almost constant flux.

I was totally sold last year when they sent 4 or 5 different regional and national guys to watch Chris Jones play live -- and had him as a high 4* before rivals even had him rated at all(and he was a 2* or 3* on scout)...

I will try to keep y'all updated on his performance, my son on team, so we go to all games.
One more thing, he returns kickoff as well!

That sounds like somebody we really want. But how are his grades? Will he qualify? I ask that knowing absolutely nothing about him.

Well, that sounds even better. It's going to be tough doing football and engineering at the same time, but it can be done. Looking forward to seeing him next year.

2 things:

1 - He sounds like an MSU (we don't get too many primadonnas)

2 - How stupid does the coach at Petal have to be, you have a guy like this and you run the ball 90% of the time? I'd at least be letting Jackson run sweeps and such.

How much of that is a reflection of the size of the class? Obviously it's not a top 15 class, but how badly are we getting dinged because of the small class size?

I've seen him play: "Rev" is aggressive as a WR and will go get the ball. The opposite of Joe Morrow. He blocks out guys like a basketball player. I bet he would be an awesome H-Back down the line when he gets around 220 lbs (which he looks like he's at 210-215 now, honestly)

Good stuff, thanks. The fact that he is "opposite of morrow" makes me happy. Not sure if you know my feelings on Joe, but I think he is a puss that needs to learn to be more aggressive as a giant WR.

Head Coach is Marcus Boyles and he is very good. Petal has two excellent running backs so Jesse does not get the ball as a runner very often. Petal does have him returning kicks and punts and they do throw to him a lot they are just not real accurate with the ball. Petal does try and get him the ball as much as possible. He is a true playmaker.

Petal's receivers Coach is Todd Pinkston, former USM Player and a Pro...he does a great job with the receiving corp.
