So, has it always been ok to transfer from one school to another to play ball in Meck County or is this a new deal? I seem to remember a August date on these kind of things?

Not sure about specific school systems but if you move physical locations, there is no issue at all, with some stipulations(not recruited, etc). Going from char meck to union county doesn't necessarily mean a move was made since they are neighboring county's. Some school systems just require you to pay the out of district fee if there is no move. Some schools in SC like Gaffney (heard they have 2 nearby transfers coming within the next week if they didnt come last week) dont even charge a transfer fee, thats why they have so many from the surrounding area just come to them and drive 20 mins to school instead of their home school.

Looks like to me what rules would apply for one county would apply the same for all counties. take for example if a player transfer to one county to another county and the person had to sit out a year or so many games then looks to me the same rule should apply for all other counties as well. If not the same rules how could it be fair for everyone

NCHSAA rules allow the transfer. It is some districts that have their on policies but they mainly deal with in district transfers.

I understand doing this before the season. But doing this almost mid season is strange. Unless it was an emergency where they had to move.

People up and move more than folks even realize. Sometimes for jobs. Sometimes for family. Sometimes running from trouble.

Then some up and move just for the kid to attend a certain school.

if it’s one of those situations I understand. Besides the last one you said( this late in the year)

If the state doesn’t adopt a 365 rule HS sports will be ruined within 5 years. NC has made it to easy to move around as you please. I guess I’ll wait until the state championship game to move my son so he can win a championship.

This has been going on for decades. People are just now finding out because of social media.

I dont recall this happening at all if ever back when you and I were in High School (1502 BC). Kids stayed with their Jr High feeder school to High School teams. Only exception was the city schools EE Smith, Terry Sanford, Reid Ross. Those kids got split up a little bit depending on where they lived in the city. But the county schools all stayed together, there were no transfers allowed. Remember Louis Craft from Horace Sisk Jr High? He was so distraught because he thought he would be playing for EE Smith that when he had to go to Terry Sanford he went as far as quitting football for 2 years, finally only playing as a senior at Terry Sanford. Point being they absolutely would not allow him to transfer to EE Smith at all no matter how badly he wanted to,circa 1979. Edit to add in his first and only season after sitting out his first two years at Terry Sanford he burned defending state champion Richmond in the first game of the year for over 200 yards in a lopsided Terry Sanford win. He didn't want to play for Terry Sanford his heart was set on playing for EE Smith. He absolutely torched Richmond that game, his first game in in 3 years and essentially lead a Terry Sanford football resurgence that lasted several years.

Not to this level. There is no loyalty. Just look at Mount Pleasant this summer kids started there, left for another school, and a few days into the school year were back. That’s crazy.

Schools don't have enough staff to track every athlete, or even every student, who transfers. Trying to enforce accountability, including non-athletes, would be a logistical nightmare, and financially, it’s impossible. The budget simply doesn’t allow for monitoring at that level. The solution is clear, the district should implement open enrollment across the board, paired with a mandatory 365-day eligibility rule for sports unless a student physically moves into that school’s district. This would create fairness, reduce constant transfer churn, and make enforcement manageable.

Agree that this has been going on for years. Social Media has made it more known. Nepsy is 100% correct. This would be a logistical nightmare to police every student that goes from county to county system to system not counting sports. The number of multi county folks in NC is very high. Then add in parents that teach, military families, and multi home students. The best way to keep athletes is win and have good relationships.

I'm not talking about going back to our Days. That was long long ago.

It's been happening since I can recall. I was in school at Page from 2002-2006. We had a runningback transfer to Ragsdale a few weeks into the season in 2005, because he realized the kid going to Oregon who was the starter was going to get the bulk of the touches.
