Syracuse could be better or worse depending on the candidates geographic preference, but i would say they are worse. I think there are very few openings left. Wyoming even hired a guy.

The more important question in this hire is what coaches that could be targeted for hire are in positions as attractive or more so than MSU. I think that is gonna be our biggest obstacle.

<font face="Arial" color="#000000" size="2">There aren't many openings period. Here's all that I could come up with, along with the coaches they've hired so far. Currently, only Washington & Syracuse on as big an opportunity as State.

Why would a Pac-10 Washington vacancy be that much more preferred than an SEC MSU vacancy?

1. They've won a MNC, so they've got some tradition.
2. Seattle.
3. It's easier to win there than the SEC - the PAC-10 consists of 1 great team, and a couple decent ones.
4. In-state rival is putrid.

I would say 2nd tier MS > best talent in Washington. Of course if you don't win the conference it is kind of a wash. I am just comparing typical SEC teams to Pac 10. Normally a SEC team in the BCS is going to beat the **** out of a Pac 10 that isn't USC.

However it would be easier to get to the BCS in the Pac 10 since you have USC and then some good teams like Ore St., Oregon, Cal, Stanford is on the rise. But Washington is in worse shape than we are. Most games with the walrus in the SEC were relatively close and that is with his dumbass decisions and ****** recruiting.
