Love to have this guy..

San Diego State punter Tanner Blain is a special teams hero.

In Saturday’s Mountain West Championship at Wyoming, the SDSU senior stood in the shadow of his own goalposts, steeped in a 10-10 tie. He received a long snap, then used his right leg to deliver hellfire upon the Cowboys. He uncorked a doozy of a punt from his own 3-yard line, which sent Wyoming's return man backtracking. The Cowboy couldn't wrangle the football, and it bounced and rolled all the way to Wyoming's 14-yard line.

It goes into the books as a 75-yard punt. Given the stakes involved, I'm submitting this as a nominee for Punt of the Year. I don't care that it happened in the thin mountain air. Just look at this punt. Watch it fly, and revel in its glory for as long as time allows.

Not nearly as long as Randall Cunninghams one punt in college (which I saw, and it was at less than 2000 foot altitude) which went about 90 yards, or the one for Philadelphia that he got credit for being 93 yards IIRC.

A true triple threat player, maybe the best combination ever.

I was also on the field in a FLAG FOOTBALL game where the other QB threw the ball over 80 yards in the air, I know because it was from one end zone to the other (official flag field, 80 yards long).

Your kick wasn't bad though, now it takes me about three kicks to go 75 yards and that isn't counting the 15 yards behind center, LOL.

Reminds me of one of UK punters flipping the field against LSU. Someone will have to remember the distance, year and punter.

I believe Paul Calhoun once had an 80-yarder; I believe it was against IU in 1984/85.

Top level NFL quarterbacks rarely, if ever, throw 80 yards through the air. I have a hard time believing any flag football guy did it.

This is exactly right. I was there and it seems like that punt was even longer than that. He kicked it and the ball hit and seemed like it rolled forever. Never will forget that. He was a really good player.

Paul sounds ok. But, still think the one I remember was vs LSU. Also, seems it was longer than 80. Description by Champcat11 was accurate. Probably in the UK record book, if someone wants to look it up.

I believe that was Andy smith who uncorked a free kick after a safety I believe, not actually a punt, but it flew like 70 yards in the air and barely bounced landing inside the 1 yard line.

Had to look it up. It went 86 yards against LSU in 2002 by Donnie Jones.
I think they have the name wrong. I remember we had a punter Bobby Jones. I don't remember a Donnie Jones.

:LOL I did too, I was playing DB on fourth down on their 20, 8 man flag in the city league I started, time running out. The QB, about 6' 2" and 220# circled back and forth until he was about two yards in his end zone, meanwhile I am staying behind his receiver and by that time I was 40 yards downfield and I said what the hell, the QB is about 60 yards away so I quit running. Then he threw the ball and I said OMG, and took off, covered the 20 yards to the end zone while it was in the air but it was over my head and I jumped up at the goal line and barely missed it, It hit the receiver in the chest about five yards deep in the end zone but it bounced off because he thought I had it.

I lost some credibility because I put it on here once as a 90 yard pass because 2 yards deep plus 80 ;yards plus 5 yards deep plus at least three more from the trajectory from about 6' up to his chest made it 90 yards I thought, but talking to a teammate after my post he said (and I vaguely remember) because of the space they marked off four 18 ;yard sections instead of the regulation 20 yards so I lost eight yards, but definitely over 80..

I always thought the QBs name was Herman Colefield, but I told the story to a fellow official years later and he knew him and said his name was Scoffield (sp?). I also commented that George Mira, QB at the U that played UK while I was there in the sixties threw the hardest pass I ever saw in that game, about 40 yards that never got 10' off the ground, and Wildcard said he was at the game and Mira threw one about 80 yards in that game IIRC. George Mira was only about 5' 11", the Lex Herald had an article before the game saying his receivers couldn't catch the ball because he threw it so hard.

Nevertheless, I know what I saw and I will swear on my mothers grave or anything else that it actually happened. But you are correct, I had a hard time believing it when I was there and seeing it happen in person.

Sorry, my screw up. The 86 yard punt was done by Donnie Jones, punted against UK for LSU at CWS. UK record is an 80 yarder by Paul Calhoun in 1983 against Indiana, as stated by UKalum1988. Second longest was Randy Jenkins 78 Yds vs UT ironically same year.

It doesn't give any details on hangtime or how long it rolled did it?

I think flag balls are smaller than college footballs.

Nope, never heard of that in adult leagues. In this case I furnished the game balls (and since I was the head of the league, coached our team, played every down, etc etc if I didn't like what was going on I just took my ball and went home) LOL.

Interesting that the main official the city hired was a 6' 7' honorable mention All American basketball player, Harvey Munford, that had the broadest shoulders I have seen, quit in the middle of the season because the games and criticisms got too rough for him------had to have a meeting of the coaches and we had them officiating the games they weren't in for the few games left, with a warning that if there was any real trouble it was over. That worked out pretty well,, the teams had to empathize sportsmanship or not play.

Flag football is a great sport, just can't afford too much emphasis on winning, more about playing.

Honest to God, true story, and a coincidence that it went from one end zone to the other so I had a pretty accurate measurement, it had to be a little more than 80 yards. I verified with my teammates that he was about two deep in the end zone when he threw it (what I saw also) and I know where the receiver and myself were when it finally came down.

Shouldn't have to punt to begin with.

Next year, I'm sure, and we don't play Bama so no excuses. Besides, if anyone plays Bama and tries to punt it will probably be blocked anyway, LOL.

Thanks, but you probably don't find it nearly as hard to believe as I did when I first saw that pass from my position 60 yards or more downfield on a trajectory to go way over my head. LOL.

Not sure what Pakulac's long was. Record book for 2013 says Calhoun had longest at 80 yds vs IU in 1983.
