Something behind the scenes was going on, as hes been a pretty solid coach for them. Very strange.

I realize the irony of this statement coming from a Kentucky fan but I can't imagine the Indiana football fan wakes up thinking "Six wins and bowl game just aren't enough!"

Heck he's even beat in state rival Purdue three years in a row.

He just signed an extension in January this year...$15M over 6 years. There has to be a cause that will allow IU to get out of the contract because they ain't coughing up $15M for the guy not to coach.

Ok ESPN is tweeting out he pulled a Bobby Knight

Mark SchlabachESPN Senior Writer

Indiana University officials have fired football coach Kevin Wilson and will announce his dismissal at a Thursday news conference, according to the Indianapolis Star and other media outlets. A former Hoosiers player told ESPN on Thursday that he and at least five current IU players were interviewed about Wilson's treatment of players in meetings with athletics department officials and university lawyers during the past two weeks. The university sent out a news alert on Thursday saying there would be a major news announcement regarding its football program at a 6 p.m. news conference.

if both this guy and fat bastard were run despite good results at crappy schools, it is amazing that both came from the big bro stoops tree.

Hearing now he forced injured players to play. That much less exciting than choking a player in front of TV cameras.

I doubt Wilson treated players that way under Bob Stoops. I think he felt he had to do this at IU because his roster was way more thin there.

Still no excuse. Hence his firing.

After back to back bowls. Curious.

You go Indiana, acting like a football school?
After reading a little on the issues, sounds like Bob Knight pissed in the team water and coach

After reading on some of his temper tantrums it is obvious to me that Bob Knight has snuck in and pissed in this mans beer from time to time!!!

Fans, how many of you think going to a bowl is a good enough reason to keep a coach? I sure don't! With today's scheduling, a team is given a minimum of three cupcakes, and sometimes four. That means you only have to win two or three games against legit opponents, and they may be weak. If a coach can't win 8 games after he has been at a school for 4 or 5 years, since he will have his own recruits, it's time to show him the door. If your willing to accept just going to a bowl, then that's what you will get, a coach who is not very good. With the amount of money coaches make today, they need to win, or the school needs to get rid of them. I, for one, believe in winners in life, and do not think you should get a trophy if you don't win. If someone works hard and wins, why should he be on the same level as the person who doesn't win? Pi$$ on that! In America today, to many people are satisfied with just doing enough to get by, instead of winning. If winning isn't important, why keep score. I WANT TO WIN!

Rumor I'm hearing from a lot of Hoosiers is he was bypassing concussion protocol. Rushing kids back, one parent filed a complaint during fall camp, that the rushing back made symptoms worse

If true he should never coach again

There are former players tweeting that none of that stuff happened. Someone obviously isn't telling the truth here.

Reports on radio is violation of concussion protocol. Alleged to have had a player on concussion sit out run. Players conditioned worsened. School president and legal end got involved.
Winning IS important. Being alive and able to walk straight is too.

Had an IU fan just tell me that the AD and Wilson hated each other, the other stuff is a smoke screen.
Wonder if he was acting a bit BCG-ish behind the scenes, and the AD got tired of it. Instead of telling what he really did/was doing, they came up with another narrative.

The truth about it will come out in due time though I'm sure.

Doubt it would be as simple as that. If IU doesn't have legitimate, provable reasons they would have to write Wilson a $15M check.

Possible can't say for sure, was just told the hatred between the two is pretty high.

We all want to win, but giving a guy 4 or 5 years to get to 8 wins at programs like UK and IU is short sighted IMO. If someone continues to improve and puts a better product in the field and only reaches 7 wins in his 4th and 5th year, you don't show him the door if things are trending up (better recruiting, more competitive against the top teams, etc). At schools like us, you have to give a guy a chance to win (seasons like this year) and then see what he can do from there. It's much easier for someone like Stoops to recruit after a couple decent years than it is the first few years of taking over a program that was in the dumps.

They already named their DC permanent head coach.
Really? They could have made a decent run after guys like Charlie Strong, or Jeff Brohm. IU plays a pretty tough schedule, Michigan, OSU, Penn State, etc. they are basically the Big 10 equivelant of us. They could get a decent coaching prospect to consider them.
