Iowa was 18th in total defense coming into the game, and around 10th in scoring defense. So it isn't as good as our D in 1999, but it's not shabby either. And their offense is a tad better than ours was in 1999, so I'd say the comparisons are valid. They are also having to rally for their lives against mediocre opponents. They did beat Penn State, though, which was a big win. We beat 1 team with a winning record in 1999 (Ole Miss), and I think Iowa is sitting on 1 or 2 as well. Like us going to Alabama, they will go to Ohio State to see if they are "for real". We passed the test for the most part against Alabama, got screwed on the punt return call, which might've changed that game.
I am in no way denigrating what a great year we had in 1999. Just saying that we are similar to Iowa in that we were unbeaten but still had a lot to prove.
