Gov. Barbour made that recommendation several months ago at the same time he'd proposed consolidation of the HBCUs.
The MACJC have made a lot of reductions regarding sports at the community colleges-- especially with regard to maximum number of games played, etc. One advantage that SBCJC schools have in comparison to other community colleges is that the colleges in question have had a long-term historical interest in football and other sports what with the colleges having competed in those events for 80 years or so.
