Football only.

James Madison had quick success, NDSU may as well.

Will be interesting to see if the other 3 Dakota schools also move up. They're all very competitive in the FCS.

I read where UC Davis, Tarleton State and Sacramento State are already exploring moves. North Dakota, South Dakota and South Dakota State are on deck.

The most teams ever to move up in one season was 3. We may see 6+ this year.

Just great, now FCS football is being ruined.
I'm going to say the opposite, that this is a good thing. The remaining Dakota and Montana schools don't belong in the FCS and should all move up too.

Most FCS programs are the 4th, 5th, etc., largest schools in their states. Unless you grew up in the same town they're in, you likely didn't grow up a primary fan of an FCS school. The Dakota/Montana schools are different because they have a lot of statewide "default" support and institutional support by having alums all over state government. It's no wonder they are able to put together great teams year after year.

I presume they saw James Madison be good immediately, lose Cignetti, and then still be good afterward (they made the Playoff this year) and felt like they were missing out

I had forgotten that the Mountain West is losing 5 of their current teams next season. NDSU will be joining along with Northern Illinois, Hawaii and UTEP.

Edit: They are paying 12m to the conference and 5m to the NCAA to join, payback seems straightforward with a 3.5m a year in TV revenue. I wouldn't thing the MVC contract would award much at all

And the reason it’s football only:

The Missouri Valley Football Conference is a football-only FCS league.

Its members tend to be either in the MVC (legally a distinct entity) or the Summit which is the case for the Bison in most Olympic sports…

Yep, is interesting. SDSU has always had tough football. They are one of those "Toledo-like teams" that I'm glad we didn't play last year. The Montana Grizzlies are up there too with the Dakota schools.

Just proves that college football isn't dying in the least. More and more teams are willing to pony up and be a part of it.
