I won't name the school because he works for me now and it's stupid i'm posting this on a message board. It's a school that if I asked "are they a football school or a basketball school?" 100% of you would say football school. Yes 100%.
The conversation was based on the fact the UNC Controller (for the AD's office) just called him and was talking about the $30+million they just made on the Championship. for JUST that game, not the entire tournament (some will obviously be shared with conference). We started talking about finances and he went on to tell me how almost any AD in a major conference would without a doubt rather teams from their conference make the final four than a BCS bowl game (other than the title game). This school has a (recent history) national title in football and he said the financial impact to a school making a run to the elite eight outweighs that of the payouts from a football national title. A lot of that comes down to how the money from football is shared vs. basketball and how generous the payouts are for the NCAAT.
I just thought it was very interesting.
