Tuesday game. Thurs-Sat SEC series. Plumblee threw 110+ on Sunday. I heard opinion that we want to keep Small and Ginn on Fri/Sat but if you do will Plumb be ready to go on Thursday? If so is it fair to ask Plumb to move up three days after such a long outing to avoid moving small and ginn up one?

Then who gets the mid-week start? I'm sure it will be another johnny allstaff effort but do you give James another chance to start?

I don’t see any reason to overthink it. We need to protect Small, Ginn and Plumlee. If that costs us regular season win #45, oh well. We should be in good shape for a Top 8 short of a complete collapse this week and in Hoover.

James starts; hope he goes 3 innings. Everybody else gets 20/30 pitches. Small, Ginn, Plumlee, and Liebelt don’t throw. We don’t substitute personnel in this game to win; this is practice.

Normal weekend rotation Thurs-Sat.

It's pretty simple. Everyone gets an inning or 2 on Tue. I would not start James on Tue, but I might try him out of the bullpen for an inning or 2. Then, Small Thur, Ginn Fri and Plumlee Sat.

Not sure why anyone would suggest deviating from this. There is no dilemma at all.

thekimmer just suggested we possibly start Plumlee Thursday. I guess that is the intellect level we are dealing with here.

Small, Ginn, Plumblee and Liebelt are the only three not available for an inning or two. Without knowing how guys have looked during workouts, I might start Cerantola against LaTech. We need him to contribute next year. Roll him out for a couple of innings (hopefully) and then bring in James for a couple of innings (hopefully).

Not sure I'm with you on that one. Seems like a formula to be down 12-0 in the 2nd.

Yeah.. I know. But those are both talented guys. And there are times a good coach has to take a talented guy and simply say.. I'm not going to let you fail. Now go get the job done.

Is Cerantola injured or is he still struggling to throw strikes in bullpen sessions?
He throws strikes in bullpen sessions and looks amazing in those sessions, it’s when he gets on the mound for a game with people in the stands when he can’t throw strikes or get anyone out.

Midweek is Johnny Wholestaff, doesn’t really matter who starts. Go with the normal rotation and order this weekend, with emphasis on not overextending Small or Ginn. I would have a hard cap of about 80 pitches for both. It will be good to throw them on one less day of rest though, because it’s that time of year and they might get asked to do it in the regional or in Omaha. Better to ease them into it against USC and maybe in Hoover if the opportunity presents itself. Do the same thing with Plumlee, provided that we win at least one of three against La Tech and first two USC games and feel that the national seed is secure.

We REALLY need James or Cerantola to step up and have a strong outing. I hope their confidence in themselves is better than the confidence I have in them though. Cerantola's last start was against MVSU and he walked 3 and got only 1 out in 25 pitches and was pulled. Last week James started against Memphis and gave up 6 runs, 2 hits, and 4 walks and left after 8 batters w/out getting a single out.

You're right, they need to get the fog outta their heads, but La Tech ain't Valley. No more pansies left to pick I guess.

The ship has sailed for both of those two this season. Even if one of them had a single good outing in a meaningless regular season game, are you really going to trust them in the postseason? The only way we should use either one in a starting role is if we get in the regional loser’s bracket and get super depleted by game 4 or 5.

I imagine Brandon Smith will get the start. Thought he settled us down against Memphis and had some nice innings this weekend. I know his last start didn't go well ,but we haven't had a quality midweek start since Plumlee was consistently starting midweeks. I'd go Smith for 40-50 pitches and then go Self, Spring, Eagan, Barlow, Brock, Cerrantola, James, hell maybe even Colby White for an inning. This is the last game we can use a lot of our bullpen unless we want to say 17 it in Hoover and use two games to figure out our bullpen arms for the tournament. And by the way, I'm not against doing that if we take care of business this week and lock up a national seed. We need to find a 4th starter and we need 2 to 3 more consistent bullpen arms. If you look at our good teams we had middle relievers who could eat innings. Whether it was Mitchell and Girodo in 13, Rigby, Houston, Cyr, Brown, Billingsley in 16, or Neff and France last year.

Are Kale Breaux and Spencer Price done for the year? Of course I don't think Breaux had but one appearance this year anyway.

If we pitch Small, Ginn Plumlee this weekend, it kinda sets us up for the SEC tournament as well with regular rest.

I don’t think there’s any need to overthink it all. Treat it like a normal week, everybody else in the conference is on the same schedule too.

Keep the rotation the same this week. Then pitch a midweek guy on Wednesday in Hoover and our normal rotation from Thursday on. Yeah you lose a day of rest this week but everybody in the league does, and this way it’s normal rest going into Hoover and extra rest going into the Regional.
