AS a whole this family member also says that the players dont like cohen because he cusses them like yard dogs.

Another interesting side note: Paxton Pace's arm is swelling up really bad after he pitches. If his arm isnt healthy by the fall cohen told him he is getting cut. If he doesnt get cut he may end up quitting anyway because cohen constantly cusses him and calls him pretty disrespectful names.

I would hope its not true about Powers. I don't know what is going on inside the teams practices but the players are pretty mute about Cohen in the media clippings that I have read. I am enjoying Cohen and hope he continues to be our coach and succeed down the line but if this is true it's getting harder and harder to keep pushing these things aside from the public's view. His **** is going to hit the fan eventually.

Maybe its just a ****** season's worth of built up stress getting to him and this weekend will help it. But by no means should he be calling a player a m/f in practice. And he shouldn't be threatening to cut these guys either until the season has ended.

If I heard this from more than one player and a few of the better ones like Connor Powers, Nick Routt, or Grant Hogue then I would consider it proof. If it was coming from someone who everyone knows is more than likely to get cut then I won't consider it.

I have a hard time believing that we would trot Paxton Pace out there today if he is struggling with an injured arm...

I was sort of thinking the same way; that someone is upset over the possibility of being cut and they are making up complete ********. Considering that while he was at Kentucky the fans, players, and the administration seemed to really like him, I find these little nuggets about Cohen hard to believe. Who the hell knows.

I have been very disappointed at our shortstop and second base play this season.... too many errors and routine plays botched. I like the move of Rawdow to shortstop. It worked this weekend. I would have played him before now.

We need more quality players and hopefully we have recruited them!

Long season about over.

the families are finding it hard to accept their exposed lack of talent. So instead of confronting the situation head on, they and their families are taking the brave path of anonymous message board bitching and innuendo. Sack up and take it like a man. You were gifted a baseball experience two division higher than your ability. You're welcome. Now pack up and head to Cleveland. The next step in Operation Depussification is underway.

1st thing, Cohen is a hard ***, but he wouldn't call one of his player a stupid mother 17'er. 2nd, I highly doubt Powers told him he'd kill him if he talked to him like that again. If Cohen unleashed on him, Powers probably just **** his pants and sat back on the bench.

I'm calling BS also for two reasons:

1. While Powers didn't play SS, he did play this weekend... Went to 2nd in the ninth Friday night and started at 2nd, going 1-for-4 Saturday. I may be wrong on this, but I think he is a second baseman that was converted to shortstop.

2. If you heard Crosswhite on post game last night, he was talking about how much he enjoyed playing for Cohen and Cohen was talking about Crosswhite entertaining everyone during the rain delay. I doubt you'd get that from your senior leader if they all hated Cohen, especially considering Crosswhite is having an rough year.

The Polk apologist amaze me. I've watched this team all year and while the bullpen has been frustrating, I've been amazed at how this team continues to complete.

Cohen has recruited a JUCO guy that is very similar to Powers- Johnathan Ogden is his name. Not to mention Nick Vickerson will be competing for that job as well.

I don't know if Powers will get cut or not, but he will have competition next year at the very least- and I haven't even mentioned Rawdow yet.

As far as all of these rumors, I'm not worried about them at this time. If this is happening five years from now, I might be concerned.

What everyone has to understand here is that we are about to have a massive purge. When that happens, people (ie parents) are not going to be happy. For many of these players, this is the highest level of baseball that they are going to achieve, and it's about to get taken away from some of them. These parents are just sticking up for their child like any parents worth their salt would. I would probably do the same if it were my son.

That said, in today's society where people seem to have a hard time admitting that they weren't good enough, and then working to get good enough, it's a lot more convinient to blame someone else and portray yourself as a victim. In this case, it's Cohen's potty mouth that's driving them off. Not the fact that they can't throw strikes or hit. And the beauty of it is, how many people do you know that don't cuss, ever? Jesus? Mother Theresa? Orel Hershiser? They're just taking a cue from Uncle Ron- you don't want to play for John Cohen, he will yell at you.

And as far as Pace- I don't know what to make of that. "Really bad" is pretty subjective. It's very common for a pitcher to have swelling in his arm after pitching for obvious common sense reasons. That's one reason they use ice. I'm not going to rehash that, though.

but I'm not gonna call BS strictly cause it came form GP. We all know Cohen has no problem cussing at his players, so him calling someone a stupid mother<17>er doesn't seem that far-fetched. Now the part about Powers telling him he would kill him prob isn't 100% accurate. I imagine Powers said something back to him but nothing like that, and when he told the story to his friends he had to make himself look more like a hardass.

If - He should be taken to task by his employer ? You Sir are as Big of ***** as Powers ( if true ) This is Division 1 Baseball and sorry if your feelings got hurt because " Coach cussed me." The employer should show Mr. Powers the Door if he does not like his Free Academic Ride.

these are Polk's babies. 3 years from now, no one will be whining about Cohen's practices. (And that's not a veiled prediction that he'll be fired).

I think the bottom line is mental toughness. Cohen's idea of pressure and motivation is entirely different than the staff that recruited most of these kids. Honestly, many of these kids would have never been on Cohen's radar and vice versa. He is recruiting kids with his mindset. You can read it in their quotes on the premium sites. The kids he is signing expect to see a tight ship being run when they arrive. Many of the kids there now are not SEC-caliber, either in physical talent or in mentality or both. Powers probably needs to be somewhere else. Probably 10 or 12 others need to leave too. They will be happier afterward. He will be happier. We will win or lose with players that embrace Cohen's vision and philosophy. That includes having a thick skin and responding to pressure in a productive way. Profanity and name-calling is probably not the best part of Cohen's persona, but responding the way Powers allegedly did reflects not buying into what is going on. If things happened the way that post said they did, then its probably best for Powers to be somewhere else. Last, the bottom line will be whether or not Cohen wins. If we see results over the next 2 to 3 years, then all will be fine. If we continue to lose, cursing at the players may be less tolerated.

Powers has lost his job and sees the writing on the wall...and he was probably called something by Cohen after messing up for the 100th time...but make no mistake- if the kid told Cohen he was going to kill him if he called him something again, Conners would have had his *** whipped and would no longer be in a uniform- that just doesnt happen. Especially to someone as intense and commanding as Cohen is....

This is a family member trying to start **** and save face for their child who has suddenly had his dreams crushed and is facing reality

They have gone from Polk to a complete personality change in Cohen and many cant make the transition. Plain and simple

And if Powers went "Sprewell" on Cohen I doubt if he would have been anywhere near the team afterwards. Total BS whining from some lover of "that's baseball".

Exactly. KY players liked the guy and the KY fans sure hated to see them go. Cohen is more of a hardass than Polk... but who isn't? Powers may have been called out but I don't believe a freakin word of him calling someone a stupid MFer and I don't believe a damn word that he is trotting pitchers out there with injured arms to pitch. There are some serious sour grapes there somewhere where someone didn't get the coddling they are used to and they are threatening to take their ball and go home.

Ryan Powers is awful. He is only hitting .278 and that is 40 points higher than last year. He has more strikeouts than games played. I am surprised Cohen only called him that. After sitting through 3 games this year in person, I have called that worthless waste of a 1/4 scholarship a hell of a lot worse. According to friends that have dealt with Powers in person, Cohen has him pegged if he called him a stupid M'f. I hope Cohen continues to relentlessly cuss these mentally weak Polk leftover candy asses, runs them out of here and into Stuart Smalley self-motivation classes to rebuild their self esteem. Cut day can't come fast enough for about 90% of this team.

R Powers is not quite to Bunky or Michael Rutledge awful, but he is this season's closest equivalent. Go back to NY.

There are consequences for everything we do. Good or bad.

It doesn't matter if these guys are the worse players to ever be associated with the game of baseball. There are consequences for the things we say and do to people.

I'm shocked and disappointed that so many of you feel that it is okay to mistreat "lesser" people. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised. This is Mississippi after all.

There are consequences for this guys. Consequences.

People may call you a stupid m'f if you are one. That's life. My boss calls me a dumb *** when I do stupid things. You know what, at the time I deserved it. Knowing what I know about Powers, he probably deserved it as well. You don't whine about it. You either don't do stupid things, learn to deal with it, or leave. You don't tell your coach you will kill him for calling you a name.

I don't know if the story is true, but if Powers can't deal with getting cussed, he couldn't have made it on my elementary school basketball team.

that these players who can't deal with being cussed at and talk about how wrong being cussed at is, choose to deal with it through physical violence. Or at least they claim they will. I'm betting that at least 96% of these players and their parents would want no part of Cohen. I bet John hates to lose a fistfight as much as he does a baseball game.

And I'll go on record as saying that I wouldn't want to fight Cohen.

Personally, I would have dealt with it by being a smartass.

...that about half of the current players with eligibility left will be gone before next season. Unless they start being MEN, they will be cut and scholarships lifted. I have heard that as few as 8-9 will be back. Polk was loved by everyone, but Polk babied them. To Polk they were "his boys." As a result, some of them got out of shape. Cohen tried to whip them into shape. Cohen demands accountability and some can't take it. For example, other than Grant Hogue, we had very little team speed. I predict you will see Cohen sign a few more players and we will have quite a few non-scholarship walk-ons. The other thing I heard was that, in the coaching staff's opinion, we had less than 9 SEC quality players on the roster. I back Cohen 100%. Ryan Powers would last about 15 minutes in the Marine Corps.

when you cant play for the current coach, cant follow his instructions, and cant match the work ethic he is trying to instill, you get cut and have to go play at a lower level....
After all the success that John Cohen has had, and coaching at all the places he has coached- this being his 3rd SEC team- do you really believe he is suddenly Satan and is mistreating these poor young fellows? He went thru his 1st season in Kentucky when he had players even worse than what he currently has- yet people at Kentucky loved him.

I've seen this before because I went through it myself as a coach- you come in and completely change the mentality of the former regime. Some guys get it, some guys dont. You have a little more bitching going on right now because of losing and a down talent level.

We have coaches in football and baseball that have won SEC titles and national championships recently- coincidentally, they appear to coach in the same manner- in your face, high intensity, work your *** off mentality...some of our players and alot of our fans need to quit being such whiny, holyier than thou hypocrites and get with the program.
