So what, I posted something that I heard. It is a 17ing message board; itis whatthe damn things are for. South Panolaalready posted rule five for you to read. I'm the one who is going to get ridiculed if it turns out to be false, so I don't see any reason should give a **** about what "rumors" are posted on here.

If you don't want to hear rumors then don't read sixpack. Otherwise quit bitching about every damn thing that is posted on here. Gene would love to have your business, and he will make sure that no one posts their opinion. You would never have to worry about being offended

If Byrne wanted to talk to Stans, why would he wait until after he left and then call him back? Why wouldn't he just tell him, I'd like to talk to you for a minute before you leave. Also, I don't think for a second that Byrne is a big enough dubmass to have that kind of talk with a coach in front of other people. He'd do it in private. I have no inside information at all, but this rumor doesn't pass the ******** test to me.

I actually think it is prudent to have someone present with you if you are discussing someone's job situation- espeially if it's a negative situation.

That way if Stansbury were to come up with something outrageous about how Byrne handled his job and tried to say that he was fired unjustly, at least the ninja has another witness on his side to tell the facts.

I'm not saying that Rick would do something like that, but you better be able to CYA if you're Byrne just in case.

Stansbury is employed at will. Byrne could easily fire him just because he didn't like the way he looks. Even the most desperate plaintiff's attorney wouldn't touch that case with a 10-foot pole.

that's actually how we do it where I work. If that's stupid, just remember that I work for the state.

but if stansbury has an employee contract with msu how is he "employed at will"? he could fire him but it would have to be dismissal under the terms of the contract (if any) or through a buy-out. not quite the same as employed at will i don't believe.....

Stansbury holds the cards in this one. If I were him I would be an *** to Byrne too. Stansbury has nothing to lose from this situation. If he gets fired he will be hired by another school very quickly and will be making more money. Even though we tend to think that State is a basketball powerhouse, other AD's will see how Stansbury put up lots of wins and tournament appearances at lowly MSU. Stansbury should have his agent calling Auburn and LSU right away. Stansbury will be fine.

Agreed. The only issue that needs to be addressed is finding a coach to run 'all things strategery'. Byrne needs to press Stansbury to put a guy on staff that is great at handling the offense and making changes throughout the game. In college ball, these guys are not as important as good recruiters. They exist and can be hired for a modest amount of cash.

Edited to add this: No major school is going to hire someone whose PROVEN ceiling is the final 32. No school will do it. MAJOR SCHOOLS DON'T ASPIRE TO MEDIOCRITY!

Plus, Auburn has kicked our *** the past two years. We are lucky as hell to have gotten that OT win in Starkville this year.

I think that as state fans we realize that we have consistently underachieved, but to other schools they will see Stansbury's success at MSU as being equivalent to deep runs into the tournament with another program. I don't think you guys have a realistic understanding of how MSU is viewed outside of the state. I'm not saying that Auburn WILL hire Stansbury, but Lebo has had five years of bottom dwelling at a school that at least has the resources to be a better job than Starkville. I think Stansbury's record would be very attractive to them.

around see that basketball is a game in which you can compete on a high level no matter who you are. And these are the guys making the hires. In knowledgeable athletic circles, we are looked upon as having a solid basketball program. And the fact that Stansbury has been unable to get his teams to advance will be a huge red flag. AD's also look at your record, who you have beaten, and on-court philosophy

You just won't see a big school hire him

I was suprised that Brady and Gottfried didnt find work (esp. Brady). But neither of them had the consistent success that Stansbury has had, and both were at better jobs. I think there are plenty of BCS schools with no history of basketball success that would be interested in hiring a guy that consistently won his division in the SEC. While we view Stansbury as an underacheiver, I think most AD's would see him as an overachiever. Although the trend for schools now is to take the young coaches from mid-majors, so that could hurt Stansbury.

brady has a final 4 appearance. stansbury has a few second round appearances.... he couldnt even get past the second round in '04 when our team was stacked. didnt we get up to like #4 or 5 in the country that year in the regualr season? I dont see any big conference D1 school hiring him.

The only think stansbury has going for him is i think he has found the fountain of youth and is using it on his kids, his kids do not age or get bigger, they have all been the same exact same size the last 5 years or so. they dont even look older

The contract just spells out what his severance would be if he were fired. And I can't imagine even in the hypothetical case that we would fire him that we'd try to pull a Texas Tech and claim it was for cause.</p>

"or he could do it himself"

Why the hell would he say that? I could see saying "Or you can find someone else to do it." or something like that. But, clearly Byrne is not going to do it himself. That is really stupid.

You don't get to say who is going to do the job there, Ron. You get to decide whether you are going to do it or not.

Why would Byrne have this conversation with Stans before the SEC tournament? Doesn't make sense. They typically have these conversations after the season is over. Unfortunately Stans will not be going anywhere!
