I spoke to a player last night who wanted to see what the general feeling was among the fanbase. I shared the full gamut with him. This is what he shared with me:
Some players sad. Some, like Tyson, are extremely hurt.
Some players are very happy. All respect Coach Croom and thankful they had the chance to play for him but all was not well. More negatives lately than positives.
Some are hopeful a new staff will allow position changes so they can at least have a shot at a position "they" feel they can play rather than the old "trust me, I've coached in the NFL and this is where you belong". Something to be said for failing at what you believe is best for you and then having no regrets when someone moves you to where they think you should be.
Some players hate to see Croom go but very happy to see assistants go.
EVERYBODY happy to see Woody gone. Players did not like Woody.
Most believe they have more talent than fans give them credit for. They believe the schemes hurt us and with changes and new life the real talent will come out.
ALL are concerned about keeping recruits together but keeping Tyler is priority to the players.
EVERYBODY sad to see Coach Cheese leave.
100% of the players agree.........they hate our uniforms. They hate our helmets. They absolutely hate those uncomfortable, ugly socks. They want to play a college scheme and be college players. They can look like the pros when they get to the pros.
All in all, the players are going to be OK. More upside than downside to all of this. As much as we want to make it about us, it is more about them. If they are OK with it then I think we should be OK with it, also.
