This was posted on either the Arizona board or on the UCLA board about 3 weeks ago. Bottom line: The Sidneys are very upset with Mike Garrett. The poster said (and i've heard the same thing from numerous people) that it is Mike Garrett that is waffling on taking Sidney. Sidney and family want him to play for Floyd, and Floyd and staff want Sidney. This is the same Mike Garrett that is making a ton of money due to his incompetence. Pete Carroll wasn't even his 3rd choice, and he got lucky with him. Floyd wasn't his first choice and he got lucky with him. Now, he thinks he's a legend in hiring program building coaches.
Mike Garrett grew up in Aliso Village in LA, one of the worst "housing" projects in the country at the time he grew up. It was infested with gangs. USC gave HIM a chance. Now that Garrett is God is his own mind, he's thinking about turning his back on a young black man with alot of promise who wants a coach to push him and help him grow as a player and as a person? If he does that, he is the ultimate sellout to Sidney and his own community. Sidney has been working out to get better, was the co-MVP of the Jordan Classic and reportedly worked his butt off to "pass" the SAT. You know that Floyd and his staff will make him work even harder.
You don't have to take any player that wants to be a Trojan, BUT you don't wait until late March/April to tell the coaches that he might not allow them to sign a player. It hurts the player and it hurts the coaches that could've been recruiting/signing other big men. It's also embarrassing. In the week leading up to the commitment, Sidney and his father met with Garrett/Floyd and then Sidney had the public announcement with the boxes when he pulled out the SC hat and stated how he wanted to play for Floyd because he'd been successful, been coaching at every level, and would push him. Now Garrett pulls this at the last minute? I've also heard that the community is going to demonstrate/march etc. to protest Garrett's decision if he doesn't allow USC to sign Sidney. Solomon Hill also was left in a lurch regarding this, he was attempting to get an answer for days, as to whether Garrett was going to allow them to sign Sidney, as he was going to stay with SC. This is why he waited on his decision, gave the infamous text to Rivals "I'm not committed." When Garrett wouldn't give the coaches an answer, Hill went to Arizona. Obviously now, he and family would deny this, as they don't want Zona fans to think anything other than that they were the #1 choice all along. This could possibly be two 5 star talents that Garrett could cost us for this recruiting class. Garrett should quickly come to his senses. The inference from his incompetence would be that recruits are worried about the investigation, when in fact, it is Garrett is afraid of his own shadow.
