My thought is that if Mullen leaves (I still think it is likely with continued success), then he is the first guy we give a call to.

If Manny is successful at Texas (and he more than likely will be), he isn't coming back to state for a HC gig. He has very few ties here and would hold out for a big fish.

We have more than likely seen the last of Manny Diaz coaching at state.

You could be right but we also pulled the offensive coordinator from the defending National Champions and that was when our program was very unattractive. If Mullen is hired away then our program will be in good shape and be much more appealing for a coach. I had the same attitude about Mullen and it ended up being wrong. Diaz could wait for Mack Brown to leave and try to get the Texas job though if he is successful there.

But I'm not so sure he'd be our first choice anyway. I think he'll make a good head coach one day, but he may not be the best choice available if/when the time comes for us to hire a new coach.
