Later interviews with the kid have more reasons than just the message board calling him an idiot for his schoolwork. But yet that is a big reason why he bolted for MU.

Cant imagine the Big East will be much easier on him.

"handling pressure" will not be one of his strong suits.

What's he gonna do when his coach yells at him in practice? Cry? Transfer?

because he was being called "stupid" and a "thug" and other things on a message board and decided he would rather go elsewhere that means he can't handle pressure?? why doesn't it just mean he doesn't like to be disrespected by a bunch of people claiming to be fans?

I don't see how it relates to his playing ability. You expect to be disrespected on the boards of the schools you didn't pick, not the ones that you did pick. He's 16 years old..geez.

He hasn't even stepped on the court yet, and he's being criticized by fans that should be glad to have him. Why go somewhere you're not wanted - especially when you're one of the top recruits in the nation??

I'd think just the opposite - he'd be stupid for signing with them if a large part of the fan base was already against him (assuming it was more than just a handful of people that were bashing him).

"Words are things; words are not only things, but sometimes very dangerous things. They are like firearms and should be handled very carefully. Have a care of your words or you may hurt somebody when you do not mean to. A man's reputation and living may depend upon his neighbor's grammar and accusations of horrible sins, may grow out of nothing but syntax."

- The Ladies' repository; Methodist Episcopal Church, J.F. Wright and L. Swormstedt, 1861.

Our words have an effect. Written or spoken words. Positive or negative words. Each of our words, by their very nature, has a purpose and seeks to fulfill that purpose when uttered or written.

We can try to deny this, but to do so is irresponsible.

Some people think they have a right to be negative, pessimistic and critical of others. Indeed, you may. However, if you want to own that right then be man enough to own the consequences that go with it.

Simply believing a person in the public eye should be able to take it is not enough. We cannot choose how someone reacts to what we say or write. Don't be surprised when negative words produce negative reactions. Even if the athlete, coach or administrator is a public person. After all, they are people too.

I'm not telling anyone they cannot say what they wish to say. I'm just saying realize the impact your words may have and be responsible for that. Don't be childish and throw rocks at cars but think you're innocent because you hide your hands behind your back.

Some of our mothers told us to choose our words carefully. It may be a good idea to follow that advice even in our digital world.

Probably why we lost Cam too (not really, so don't freak out). From the moment he visited AU, half the people on here hated him and said they didn't want a guy like that anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen to us at some point though. Too much bashing of our own players and staff go on here.

I haven't called anyone a whiner or a complainer in a while.

Aren't you proud of me?

When you are dealing with immature 16-17 year old kids that have been used to being coddled, going to a messageboard for a school you are considering and having a bunch of negative or snide comments being made about you could easily sway him somewhere else.
Personally, I think that MSU fans are more publically critical of ourselves and our players than most other schools. I include myself in that group sometimes.
The old way of thinking "we don't want a kid that would be influenced by the internet on our team anyways" should absolutely change.

Rival schools will even post on our messageboards belittling or demeaning a possible recruit in hopes that they will read it. Heck, I bet some of them even send them the links. If we don't challenge these people, it may occur to a simple minded recruit that we all feel like that.

You said discuss so discuss I did.
