So he's going to pay for the UM beat writer to drive to Starkville. It just seems odd to me, but hey, we all know the newspaper business is well run. Hell, pretty soon, to save money, they'll just watch it on Tivo like 2HD did for UGA.

All of Gannet has furloughed their employees this week. Rough times in the newspaper business. The Detroit Free-Press has limited home delivery and print editions to three days a week, and the New York Times just sold part of its shares to some Mexican Millionaire businessman.
Due to the bad economy all CL employees, including Rusty, are required to take a week off without pay. Have yall not noticed how thin the CL has gotten lately and all the lay offs including Orley Hood? Bad times for newspapers.
The UM beat beat writer would be there regardless. You really think the $30 in gas they will spend to send David Brandt to Starkville will break the CL's budget?
They want to make sure the all-important Ole Miss-MSU blow out scheduled for this weekend gets nothing but an Ole Miss spin.
That way, when the rest of our guards blow out their knees on Saturday, and we're pulling fans out of the stands to fill our guard slots, it'll be covered with nothing but Ole Miss slant.
First, I don't think it is just because of the bad economy. Their subscription rolls have dwindled steadily for years.

Second, I think Rusty could have planned it a little better. That's all I am saying. Hasn't Rusty been on furlough since he wrote some article about a marathon?

I don't know what we would do without you. They should just let Gene cover it for the C-L, because everyone knows he won't be going to Oxford (cue sniper fire).
Between the facts that we played two games last week to one this week and also they'll have the Ole Miss beat guy covering the game Saturday, this seems like a pretty good time for Veazey to take his break and the CL to still get adequate coverage.
....by which I would assume means the end of March, so it's probably better for them to go ahead and get it out of the way on a week where there's no midweek game, and the Saturday game can be covered by someone that was going to be there anyway. That way they don't have to cram it in the end of March hoping that there's no kind of tournament run.
This might be the only week where he has nothing serious to cover for 6 days since BBall runs into Baseball. I don't mind him missing the Ole Miss game. It isn't going to be much to report on anyways.
