I like Westry. He has the tools to be outstanding. Often times the sophomore year is the toughest. I thought he played well against UL and I believe he will play well against GT. I am looking forward to his play next year. Go Cats!!

Westry is a cover corner. He's a good tackler in open field, kinda hard to make plays when you play 10 yards off the ball every snap and not really his job 90% of the time. He's a man to man corner feel like he was underused this year

We'll if you don't really try to stick your nose in there for tackles to begin with...sort of hard to miss 'em.:flushed:
You're wrong... Westry was great his first year playing man on man... This year in the zone, it was a learning period for him... A great player don't go away... I don't understand why everyone is on his case anyway...

All those SEC coaches that watched his film are suddenly wrong about Westry... This really don't do you justice K_TIME... I'm used to good stuff from you... I tell you what, there are a lot of NFL teams who love for a player to be able to play Mano-mano...

Once UK gets their team smoothed out, he will once again be playing more man on man D... Anyway, those that came his way he made the tackle... I wouldn't mock a very good player on a very good team, from Florida until now, if I was a UK fan...

Westry will add more muscle to those bones, so he won't be injured as much... Look at those legs, still the guy has the heart to get in there and mix it up...

Our problem early was the lack of pass rush and missed tackles i think. Secondary were more concerned about helping guys up front so they got beat by peaking in the backfield and gave up some big plays. Once Stoops took over i thought the secondary (and defense as a whole) was noticeably better.

I like our cornerbacks. Pretty solid. I didnt have any issues with that part of the team this year. Heck pass coverage has been a strong suit for Stoops since he became coach. Gettn beat deep hasnt been much of an issue with this team....ever.

For his size, Westry is unusually soft. Not a willing tackler at all. One might understand if he were 5'9" 180 pounds.

He had the slam against the SC TE. But that guy literally jumped into his arms. Had he put his head down, it would've been a truck stick.

Kid is a good player with great measurables. Just needs to enjoy sticking his nose in.

Westry had a soph slump season, but he's by no means a lost cause. Any criticism of "not being a willing tackler" is silly. Show me the tape where she shys away from tackles, because I can show you where he planted a TE and ran down the Heisman winner. He wasn't asked to tackle a lot this year in part because we did not have anything resembling a pass rush for over half the seasom - we needed CBs to cover.

I expect next year he can be asked to do more things. With Baity, Johnson, Edwards and him all back there, we can surprise some people with our versatility. We can bring a man down into the box or run my very favorite play ever: the CB blitz.

This video is a repeated lack of run support from Chris that has been happening his first 2 years at UK. Chris is a solid CB but I've never seen any greatness that many proclaim to have seen. He's really bad in run support when you look at things each game. Sure he made a good looking tackle vs. South Carolina TE but the kid tried to hurdle a 6'4 CB.

On the other hand...we have a really special CB in Baity. Kid is physical in the run game and he really competes when ball is in air. I think Baity is UK's best CB since Trevard Lindley...I am psyched to see him play 1 more year (hopefully 2 more)

Dude took a terrible angle on that play. Once he gets some size on him I think he'll get more confident rolling up and putting a hat on someone. Dude needs to live in the weight room though and eat protein till he pukes.

Yep. That is a pretty terrible angle. But then again, Jones took a pretty bad angle through traffic, and Ware crashed inside and got pancaked instead of setting the edge. If he goes down field instead of inside then the play is likely a very very short gain, if not a loss. Just a terrible play all around. lol

Exactly this- our corners aren't geared towards run support and when they are, they are more towards blitzing off the corners. Usually they lay back, which I cannot stand but it has always been our style with Stoops. I actually disagree with several and felt Westry did ok in run support and is an excellent open field tackler. (no safety but ok)However, I felt like he regressed with coverage which is his strength. He got burned like toast many, many times and drew multiple pass interference calls. In my opinion, he had a down year as a cover corner and Baity over took him as our top corner. Not to trash the kid, I like him and think he can be great, but he had a much better freshman year than his sophomore year. Which, isn't unusual and I hope he takes it and builds off it. I think as this year went on, he got better so that is a positive

I love the PFF site and their metrics. Much more accurate to what coaches use. Most would classify this as a missed tackle even though he ran him out of bounds after 8 yards. There is good reason boundary runs were the go to play vs this D. We all have warts. Westry not most physical but he is serviceable when he has to be schemed into the run game.

How on earth do they figure this out? Seems like that would take A LOT of time in the film room.

I just finished watching the UL game to pay particular attention to Westry's play. I thought he played a very good game and I did not see him shy away from any opportunities to hit someone. As a matter of fact, I saw him make some really good plays. I just don't agree that he doesn't hit people. Go Cats!!

Westry most certainly avoided contact st times and to deny that is just post season euphoria.

he has a chance to be one of our best corners in quite a while. But that doesn't mean people can't talk about what a sophomore can improve on.
We should all be able to voice our opinions. Go Cats!!
