Arizona hired an Arizona State grad as their AD.

How would you feel if we hired an OM grad as our AD?

we already had a candidate for president when Keenum was hired that graduated from MSU but worked at OM for a number of years. the fanbase and most on here were not happy about it one bit.

I would feel like I had been slapped in the face and punched in the stomach.

But Seriously... flip the coin: could you imagine, as a MSU alum, being the Ole Miss AD?

"Sorry, Houston...Hello...Sly? I've got a great deal for you!"
"Hi, Addidas?... I need 150 football helmets emblazoned with Admiral Ackbar asap."

Man this would be fun...

They will also hang a banner if we won any SEC championships while he was our AD.</p>

I don't how deep the hatred is between ASU and Arizona, but that kind of **** would not fly here. No way, no how.

is that even if he were Byrne x2, you wouldn't want him. That, in my mind, is just unbelievable. Personally, I couldn't care less (given that he's GB x 2).

think about how good someone would have to be for our administration to actually pick them to run our athletic department if they had an OM background. this person would have to overcome a crapload more scrutiny than any other candidate and if still chosen by Keenum then it would be pretty damn clear that he was the best possible choice.

and then look at the way we all talk about how great of a job that Byrne did while here and it is obvious that he was the best possible choice for Arizona. their fans may be hesitant right now but that will change quickly when he starts implementing things similar to what he did while at State.

you're trying to say. Generally speaking, I would not support a decision to hire an AD that went to OM.

"He went to AZ State? You can't be serious...how do we know he's not a one man satan sleeper cell sent here by Sparky to destroy our athletic program?? What... no UA grads in this country looking for a job??"

You're going to need it.
(somehow it always surprises me how comments on newspaper articles are only a small step above YouTube comments in their sheer inanity)

I agree. Also, as an MSU fan if I were ever in running for an AD job I wouldn't accept a job due to my pure hatred for them and couldn't put forth any effort to improve their athletic department. That is the reason I couldn't fathom an Ole Miss grad trying to support our athletic program.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Bob Tyler was a UM grad I think - and he served for a time as Head Football Coach and AD back in the 70's.

I would jump at the chance to be an AD (if that were my line of work) in the SEC. Don't care which university it would be for. If you do a good job, you'll pretty much be in a position to choose your next gig. See: Byrne, Greg

a guarantee. However, you suggested that there was no way, no how you would support him. I was just asking whether or not you would feel this way if he was GB x2, essentially.

for your school to hire someone from it's own rival to lead their athletic department, which is where the rivalry truly exists, that person has to really stand out in the interview process.

With that being said, I wouldn't be happy if a grad from Ole Miss was our AD. It just wouldn't sit right.

I would want an explanation. And there may be a reasonable one, but he would have to prove himself to me.

And I'm not one of those people that hates Ole Miss to the point of beyond rationality people. For example, if we had hired Dan McDonnell as our head baseball coach, I would not have had a problem at all with that. But for someone with Ole Miss ties to be in charge of the entire AD would have me a little leery.

Maybe I'm scarred because of my Madison Central/Bobby Hall allegiances.

also note that Byrne went from Oregon to Oregon State early in his career to lead their alumni booster programs, which is what he came to MSU to do at first. I'm not saying he isn't loyal, just saying that he has no problem working for a rival based on his past.
