Funny and painfully pointful story from last week. While at
_________________________________________________

the Greenwood Road Dawgs stop I was met by about six guys, the spokesman of which asked why links to that or other sites were not allowed. I was polite and factual, saying it's just not a good policy for subscription sites to allow free advertising for others. Nothing personal, just policy. They didn't grasp that too much, and kept trying to goad me into some response. I just smiled and said the same things, still polite and actually enjoying it.

Now what is the point? This: the oldest of these guys might have been 16 years age. See, that speaks volumes to the mentality of folk who come onto an established board and try to stir stuff up. The best word is juvenile, though in their minds it's being 'non-sunshine' or 'factual' or whatever. They just have that teen-aged mentality of somebody who says a naughty word in a public setting for shock value, or tosses a rock through a window, or spits on a nice car parked on the street. Some guys never outgrow that, too. I say guys because it is a 99.9% male thing.

And here's something else few of them would consider. When we accusing folk of being 'sunshiners' or 'sheep' we actually are falling into the inverse-trap; that is, a knee-jerk reaction that what one group sees favorably automatically MUST be countered, and that the act of opposing it somehow makes one 'smarter' or 'better' when in reality it's just the flip side of the same coin. They are every bit as much 'sheep' as the folk they mock, just working in a different herd that is no better--or worse I add--than the other. But it's a trick of the mind to think one is inherently better and smarter by being in opposition. What's that line the writer Ibsen was quoted as saying, "the minority is always right"? Obviously not true, but its a mindset the minority always finds useful.
Hmm, must be lack of sunshine--ha--outside today that's got me all so philosophical. Better crank up the coffee maker...
