I'm not sure what to be excited about as it pertains to the future of this program. The recent new commits are great, but they're years away from stepping onto the mat and they're not guaranteed to even show up. At this point our transfer results are brutal. If the vision for this program stays as is, what is the hope without widespread change?

I think Kennedy was trying to be Superman too much today. Loved huis fire but he will always be a lunch box physical wrestler. Horrible hip defense. He gave up his hips three or four times today by being overly aggressive. He’s a top 5 in March.
He should've taken a page from Caliendo. He set the blue print. Control the match first, then go get bonus. A Tech fall in the 3rd is still a tech fall.

Kennedy was going for broke in the first 10 seconds, and you could tell he was sucking wind by the end of that period, and he played right into the counter wrestling.

Hell even if he went conservative like Ferrari did, he probably wins.

Yes. Good lord have you watched Iowa wrestle outside of 2019-2021 the last 15 years ? I’m so tired of this. They have destroyed Iowa. Period
The 2019-2021 success was due to Penn State having a young program in a rebuilding process. Also the 2020 Covid year is void(you can say whatever you want). 2021 NCAA’s especially felt like a let down for you guys when Penn State had 4 national champs to Iowa’s 1. Throughly enjoyed today’s dual meet, instant classic.

Brands has been borrowing from Peter to pay Paul for a while to try and cover for his crap recruiting, it was bound to catch up with him and it finally has.

Wow, the one sport I have confidence that we can beat ISU in, we lose.

Genuinely, I don't think Iowa will beat Iowa State in another sport this year. Just a brutal turning of the tides for our athletic department.

The whole team sucks at scrambling, turning, pinning. Who coaches any of that on this current staff. Heavy hands to high crouch...please dont scramble- we are not prepared for shenanigans!

So what is the issue. Training? Recruits? Assistants? I want change just like everyone but what’s missing
All of the above, but imo the primary issues have always been with training, the assistants, and TNT's inability to strategize during matches.

Training - They refuse to acknowledge that scrambling and wrestling from all positions are now essential components of modern training. It’s clear that no one on staff has the expertise to teach how to properly finish a shot.

Assistants – They tend to retain only yes-men and refuse to go outside the program. When they've brought in someone outside the program, those individuals rarely last long.. coincidence?

Not only have the Brands failed to close the gap on PSU but poor recruiting has allowed others to catch Iowa for 2nd. Okie St will pass Iowa by next year and leave them in their dust.

This isn't just on the Brands. The fanbase has been very apologetic for the Brands failures over the years. This has been building for years. Next year could get ugly.

I agree, I don’t want to see any assts ex hawks unless it’s Spencer or Kem. Someone outside the program needs to come in, young and a scrambling mentality to teach.

I thought so too. He knew the team needed bonus and then he tried to do too much and it bit him in the butt. And in fairness, he turned out to be correct because if he only won by decision then we still would have lost the dual on criteria so we did need him to go for broke there.

Who do you replace them with? Do you risk losing that 27 class? I’m not sure it’s that simple.
We missed the guy we needed to hire last year. And the guy we were hoping to be our next coaching savior may not be interested in doing that.

That should have happened three to four years ago. The program is too far gone. TNT needs to be replaced. I am tired of temporary fixes and spending money on ineffective efforts. We are IOWA, not Michigan or Nebraska. We need someone who understands the importance of recruiting (only took Tom 15 years to figure that out) and can actually develop talent.

Grading the wrestlers today is so easy...

Keuter/Ayala/Bailey/Williams....F.
Wasting $500k on Hwt guy. Let him play football. The next takedown shot he takes will be his first.
Absolutely no offense against anyone with a pulse.
Hope mommy reads this thread.

Lol keep this energy when we get worked by PSU and tOSU in a couple of months. We also likely lose to Okie State in Stillwater and Nebraska could also be an L.

You apologists are part of the problem.
