I just retired, but if I put my mind to it, I could make 125. So since I wasn‘t on an NCAA roster, it looks like I have eligibility! I actually had a dream about re-joining as a walk on and working out with RBY a few years ago. Looks like it may come to pass.

i hope Gabe finds peace and his calling. That being said, the chances of him becoming an AA at Iowa look to me to be hovering around zero. Some on the Iowa board already have him back on the team this year- despite being dismissed. Those guys have a lot of imagination.
I got very ill with a GI disorder in 2017 and dropped from 175 to 134 in about 1 1/2 months. After graduating,I never thought I would see that weight again, but there I was. I looked like a POW. Fortunately I got hooked up with a good GI doctor so now I’m fighting again to keep the pounds off.

I got down to 134 lb from nausea by watching a 10-min Will Lewan match (including OT because Lewan).

Yeah, I’m 5’6”, 135 pounds. Work out every day, but in reality I can eat anything and never gain weight. My parents had predicted that wouldn’t last forever, but it seems it does.

Every deployment I would lose a lot of weight. Worst one was Somalia where I went from 152 to 128 (was 28 years old at the time), but I lost at least 10-15 pounds on every deployment. After retirement put on about 10 pounds and have been 185 for the last 12 years or so... until I got bladder cancer. I have lost 7 pounds in about 10 days since my surgery (a good portion is my change of diet). I don't recommend any of my methods to lose weight.....

It wasn't because I was ill, but I was 215 when Covid hit. 3 months later, after working 12 to 16 hour days, 7 days a week and knowing I had lost a bit I was shocked when I got on a scale and it said 172.

my pancreas shut off in 2023 and i went from 205 to 185 eating like kevin mcallister when he got left home alone. just pizza, candy, and ice cream non-stop and my body wasn't producing insulin for my body to convert the carbs to calories so i was dropping weight. i finally told my primary there might be something wrong because i'm waking up 3x a night to pee so we did some blood tests and my a1c came back at 15.5. some more blood tests and now i'm an insulin dependent type 1 diabetic.

i also do not recommend this method of weight loss.

Thanks but not your fault. The good news is the first surgery pathology report tagged it as non-invasive so it is probably stage 1. I have a second surgery coming up to make sure they got it all (they think they did but better to be sure) followed by 6 months of immunotherapy. After that surveillance for the rest of my life. All in all could be much worse. Thinking of taking all the kids/spouses/even grandkids to the NCAA in Cleveland as a way of celebrating the treatment being over (for now)

In the latest Iowa related news, Caliendo is the new “closing the gap” guy on message boards. It was Feldman against Kerk last year - now it’s Caliendo against MM.

LOL, good GIF. That said, Caliendo has been one of the few opponents that challenges Messenbrink. Last season, their competitions went as follows:

1. PSU - Iowa dual: 19-4, TF, @ 6:24 for Messenbrink
2. B1G Tournament Final: 4-1, Messenbrink
3. NCAA Final: 8-2, Messenbrink

Those were the only 3 defeats that Caliendo suffered in the 2024-25 season.

Mitchell has so much offense that he just overwhelms most opponents. And that pretty much happened in the dual. And it mostly happened the prior season, where Messenbrink defeated Caliendo 3 times: (in order, 12-6, 23-7, TF @ 6:48, 17-9). But Caliendo held Mitchell to two decisions in 2024-25, and the only other person to not give up bonus points to Mitchell that season was Cameron Amine, in the NCAA quarters (and Amine is a master at keeping the scores low). In that context, I do think that Caliendo remains the biggest competitor for Messenbrink for the upcoming season, and while I think Messenbrink would be favored in any matchup with Caliendo, I also think that Caliendo is the only competitor I could project as possibly having a chance at defeating Messenbrink (excluding in-match injuries to Mitch).

All true.

Given that, who is more of a favorite for a NCAA championship?

MM has to have the best odds, with Levi perhaps second, since 174 cleared out quite a bit.

This is a very feasible. The assimption being Iowa has a long history of their wrestlers getting much better in the off-season before their senior seasons, while Penn State wrestlers have no history of improvement (in fact a regression) between their So and Jr seasons.

Who can't automatically jump there without a biased opinion? 🤔🤪

Especially at the upper weights where Iowa under Brands really shines
