I think Marcus is up by 6 points based on what we saw tonight.
Hard to disagree with the results and in particular what Davino showed tonight.

What was the score in the Blaze Ayala match earlier this year, out of curiosity?

Sorry in advance but…. it’s late, and I’m too lazy to look it up lol.

Him winning the big 10s will be important. That would mean his toughest match off the scale would be 8/9 seed in the 1/4. Semis at night he's gonna be big. And if he makes the finals Sat night he will be big. Where he's seeded will be huge for him
Agreed, whoever gets him thursday morning will have a real shot, maybe even a better shot then who would see him Friday night.

Ryan has gone to great lengths to protect Bouzakis' cut. One match per weekend, and starting at a different weight when possible. He has had 7 weigh-ins over the last 12 weeks.

We can only guess how he will do wrestling 5 or more times in a weekend.

Cole Mirasola is the only wrestler who my wife is familiar with. When she sees him on the screen, she knows she gets the remote control next. I looked at her and said Iowa and Ohio State are next - she laughed.

She's a purple belt in BJJ and hates wrestling.

That decision’s a head scratcher. Giving Bouzakis the extra hour following weigh in made no sense at all.
If the teams don't agree it goes to a coin flip and the winner (tOSU) picks the weight to start. Iowa had no say.

PSU has potentially their best team ever, we lose Levi and one can argue we might just be even better next year.
Iowa has their worst team in memory, they lose several of their hammers, and it's likely without a portal bonanza in the off season they will be even worse next year.
The times they are a changing.
Iowa is running its program like we just need 2 or 3 guys from the portal and nationals is ours, and the base buys in to that.

Hard to develop cohesion when your studs are 5th year seniors, one and done.

Hey, what do I know, Texas Tech in football used oil money to buy a damn good team. Slum Lord Bob needs to up his game, 1 million per portal transfer.

Ayala is now 6-6 this season
I'm not sure Drake has regressed though the record makes it seem so. He has wrestled the gauntlet with JAX still looming. Drake will not be a pleasant draw in March. He is still really good. 133 is the deepest weight I can remember and they are mostly a bunch of whipper snappers. It is going to be wild at 133 and 141 for a few years.

In the end, the Arnold call made no difference, Iowa wasn't stopping that onslaught.

tOSU really has a great team, several of their guys wrestle similar to PSU, great technique and scrambling.

Pre Cael, a team like this would be the clear favorite at nationals.

A post by Mineo on Facebook:

Good morning Iowa fans, Rutgers is ahead of you in the Big Ten Conference, enjoy your breakfast! 😬
Wouldn’t know, blocked me this week on Facebook.
I’m staying vigilant though and spamming every one of his Twitter posts.

This was on the other site before it shut down, but I called Mendez being a 3-timer before his Sophomore season. He isn’t getting beaten this year. Love both Desmond and Scooter, but they aren’t beating him, nor is anyone else. Glad he is done with college after this season.
I've seen a few never getting beaten guys get beat at nationals. Nobody is above getting beat end of story. Vega could definitely beat him if he catches mendez in one of his scrambles.

Agree.

The 125 will surprise me a lot if he finishes top 4. Weight management will probably be an issue, and I think he’s got one way to beat guys. Even last night, I feel like Peterson finally figured out after the early 7 point move that you can be aggressive with him without wrestling in a phone booth.

Sure, Messenbrink can be beaten too. But I predicted Mendez would not get beaten in 3 Nationals before his Sophomore season and right now I am 2 for 2 with one to be determined. I like my chances. We will find out in a month and a half. Oh, and I detest Ohio State and would love for Mendez to lose, but not to someone from OSU.

The media is already laying the groundwork to not give a PSU wrestler the Hodge. You can see it building for Mendez. I’m not saying he isn’t a viable candidate, but you can tell they will use the “career” argument and say “Messenbrink can win it next year “. Then they will reward a 1 year wonder in 2027 and somehow Messenbrink will end up a top 5 all timer and no Hodge. Ever since Zain’s sophomore year screw job, and then Lee getting 2 shares he had no business receiving, I refuse to get upset about it anymore. As long as we keep destroying the team race, I’m happy. But it is funny to see the politicking starting to build.
No doubt, just look at how “toss up” matches are picked by media. PSU guys need to be a clear favorite to get a head nod from the media, then hodge voting being a consistent back & forth between career performance to upstart/flavor of the month and sprinkle in some “Penn state gets all the glory” you could effectively never pick a Penn State guy

Like last year, for instance.

That's an amazing stat. And I don't think it's because he's necessarily wrestling poorly, I just think it's a tough weight class and to some smaller extent, his tool bag is limited and other guys have figured him out.
True it’s a very tough weight class.

But Ayala lost to Fugitt, and tech’ed him last year.

Can you imagine the mental gymnastics on HR if Drake doesn’t AA?
