Time has almost come, the biggest Iowa basketball game in nearly 30 years is tonight.

I have gone back and forth in my head on how I think this game will play out. These teams are just so close to one another.

For no specific reason, I like the Hawks 68-65 in another March madness thriller.

Tonight's game plan .........

Punch NEB in the mouth right from the opening tip, and then keep throwing haymakers. At least on the defensive end, if not both.

Limit mistakes, more commonly known as turnovers.

Limit Nebraska's 2nd/3rd/4th etc chance oppos, IE REBOUND!!!

Get up good open shots, even if quicker than normal. Don't need to overpass and try to sneak dimes into bad & crowded areas every single possession.

Make a good - or better - % of the FTs.

But honestly, the most important thing - no matter how - is ....

Some/all here might disagree with me but I'm fully at peace even if we dont win, and this is coming from someone who lives in Omaha! To slay a Sweet 16 dragon, to do it how we did it vs. a #1 seed on essentially their home court in Year 1 of Ben is simply insane. Neb has their best year EVER in bball with a coach there for 6+ years and we have what we have it's pretty incredible. Maybe I'll change my tune at tipoff but a loss to Neb in football seems to sting a bit more...

I get what you are saying. We were NEVER expected to be here in the first place. And, no one outside of Hawkeye nation is picking us to win this game.

So, if we lose we still will have exceeded what we were exprected to do this year (Thanks Ben and team!) BUT, if we win, Nebby will have lost not once, but twice this year, to a team they were expected to beat.

We have nothing to lose....go get em boys!!!!!

Im the same way from the opposite end of the spectrum. Im just thrilled we made it this far. If it wasnt for the fact that an Iowa win means I'll never hear the end of it from my buddies, Id actually be happier to see this game go Iowas way.

Well...happier probably isn't the right word. I always want to see the Huskers win. But weve always sucked at basketball save a few years in the 90s (and even then...) meanwhile watching all of my Hawkeye buddies suffer heart break in college basketball when it actually meant something to them, I want to see Iowa get over that hump and keep pushing deep into the tournament for the sake of my close friends.

I just wish it didnt have to possibly come at our expense. 😅

Wow, can I be your friend?

You are the walking definition of selfless.

Fair Warning: as your friend I will not reciprocate and root for the Huskers ;)

I feel the same way. Will be disappointed in a loss, but not upset. I never in my wildest dreams expected a Sweet 16, so I am happy. I just hope they play well.

If you had offered this to me before the year, I obviously would have taken it in a heartbeat! Playing with house money. That said, I definitely don't want the journey to end here, especially since I feel like this is a very winnable game.

I will be disappointed if they lose, but not upset/angry about it. Mission accomplished this season - anything else from here in this tournament is gravy.

I believe in Ben McCollum and his ability to scheme and coach. Just like Maryland, little red punched us in the mouth the second time around. But the third time we played Maryland, we thoroughly outplayed them thanks to Ben's coaching. I'd like to think that will happen again today with the bugeaters.

This is the biggest Iowa basketball game of my life, and I pray to the lord we win.

Ben would punch anyone in the nose that would be satisfied with just making it this far.
And in his world, even a win would leave him unfulfilled as he seeks the perfect shot, perfect game.

I get that we have exceeded our expectations as long suffering fans but the team has that impose their will engrained in their brains.

No tomorrow, no next year
This is a special group that might just be our best shot at a title for another 46 years.
Seize the day, Hawkeyes!

For the sake of my nerves I really wish I could adopt the "house money" attitude. With just about any other opponent I think I could.

But this is FREAKING Nebraska. Perennially middling Nebraska. Correctly or not, I always think we should beat Nebraska. Border rivalry ain't helping here either.

Regardless, I have confidence ... these boys are tough!

I really hope you are right, but as a life-long Iowa fan I am preparing myself for the worst. Just happens to Iowa sports in big games too often IMO.

agree Iowa men have accomplished more than I could have reasonably expected start of the season. So, great year either way. but I am wishing Hawks to a win.

will go a different route and say Folgueris will be the X factor once again.
And for the love of God, MAKE YOUR FT's!!
Absolutely cannot miss 10 FT's and walk out with a win.
