I believe in Ben McCollum and his ability to scheme and coach. Just like Maryland, little red punched us in the mouth the second time around. But the third time we played Maryland, we thoroughly outplayed them thanks to Ben's coaching. I'd like to think that will happen again today with the bugeaters.

This is the biggest Iowa basketball game of my life, and I pray to the lord we win.

Some/all here might disagree with me but I'm fully at peace even if we dont win, and this is coming from someone who lives in Omaha! To slay a Sweet 16 dragon, to do it how we did it vs. a #1 seed on essentially their home court in Year 1 of Ben is simply insane. Neb has their best year EVER in bball with a coach there for 6+ years and we have what we have it's pretty incredible. Maybe I'll change my tune at tipoff but a loss to Neb in football seems to sting a bit more...

Little Debbie fans are tired of us breaking their hearts.

Unfortnatley for them, it will happen again tonight.

We definitely got some PTSD as a fan base lol. The last game we were all convinced Florida would hit a game winner at the end. Here’s to hoping Ben and the hawks continue to exorcise those demons for us!

All I know for certain is that we are 4 wins away from an @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Let's face it....this is a game neither losing side will be able to sleep at night or "get over" for a long time. When you hit the tourney wall against the likes of UConn or Arizona or Houston, or Duke....or hell, even one of the traditional in-conference elites like Michigan, Michigan State or Purdue, that's one thing. But to be bounced this way after doing something one side has never done and the other side hadn't done this century, will be a very, very bitter pill to swallow indeed.
I think we're singing from the same hymnal.

If we could get through this game then I think the house money thing starts, even if it's against Illinois. Underwood teams are legit and the Illini have a pretty strong tradition.

When it comes to Sandfort, whoever is on him needs to think of the following:
Coach Norman Dale:
Stick with your man. Think of him as chewing gum. By the end of the game, I want you to know what flavor he is.

Guessing Stritz will be guarding him again tonight

Im the same way from the opposite end of the spectrum. Im just thrilled we made it this far. If it wasnt for the fact that an Iowa win means I'll never hear the end of it from my buddies, Id actually be happier to see this game go Iowas way.

Well...happier probably isn't the right word. I always want to see the Huskers win. But weve always sucked at basketball save a few years in the 90s (and even then...) meanwhile watching all of my Hawkeye buddies suffer heart break in college basketball when it actually meant something to them, I want to see Iowa get over that hump and keep pushing deep into the tournament for the sake of my close friends.

I just wish it didnt have to possibly come at our expense. 😅

It's crazy because no one in late October would have envisioned either Nebraska or IOWA guaranteed a spot in the Elite 8.

If you had offered this to me before the year, I obviously would have taken it in a heartbeat! Playing with house money. That said, I definitely don't want the journey to end here, especially since I feel like this is a very winnable game.

I will be disappointed if they lose, but not upset/angry about it. Mission accomplished this season - anything else from here in this tournament is gravy.

With Ben as coach, I aways think we have a shot at winning. The only time we didn't this season is when players didn't show up focused & ready to go (examples--at Penn State, at Maryland)

Random question, but does anyone else have an issue on mobile when scrolling through a thread and encountering a link to X, you just...cant scroll suddenly anymore? Just me?
Hi new friend!

This site has been running slow for me and occasionally crashing the last several days, although presently it's better.

Was preparing for the worst during the last 4.9 seconds against Florida. It didn’t happen. Hawks advance today!

I go into every game with the expectation that we might lose. Sheet happens in games that turn the tide one way or the other. Only one team gets to raise the trophy in the end.

Sports are fun & entertainment; they are not life & death. :)

will go a different route and say Folgueris will be the X factor once again.
And for the love of God, MAKE YOUR FT's!!
Absolutely cannot miss 10 FT's and walk out with a win.

Alvaro was PERFECT from the FT line in our last game.

Everyone else was 50%.

IOWA FT shooting vs #1 Florida:

......6-6 (100%): Alvaro
....5-10 (50%): Tavion
.........3-6 (50%): Rest of Team
......................................................
14-22 (64%): Overall

If we ever start making open 3s on the regular, that would go a long way too...

Hope Stirtz is on tonight. 0-9 again likely won't cut it.

3 point shooting vs #1 Florida:

.....4-6 (67%): Coop
.........0-9 (0%): Stirtz
.....3-9 (33%): Rest of Team
......................................................
7-24 (29%): Overall

A trip down memory lane for anyone experiencing their first Sweet 16.
Lute’s run to the Final Four was nothing short of spectacular, especially that thrilling win over Georgetown. If you ever get the chance, watch it on YouTube.
Still, the Iowa team that stays with me most is Dr. Tom’s first-year group. I won’t revisit what happened in the Elite Eight, except to say that I still think about it now and then.
The following year, we returned to the Sweet 16, beating Florida State and UNLV - - one of the most satisfying wins I’ve ever witnessed. We didn’t just win; we dismantled UNLV.
Then came Dr. Tom’s final season and that bittersweet Sweet 16 run. We beat UAB and took down the defending national champion, Kentucky, to get there. No one expected a lame-duck coach to carry us that far, but he did.
I hope tonight is super special because none of us will forget it for the rest of our lives. Enjoy it. And Go Hawks!

We’ve turned over 90% of our roster.
We’ve had an overhaul of our coaching staff.
No one outside the program and fanbase expected anything from this team.
This program has been told its rebuilding.
This team has been counted out more than once.
This team has leaned on toughness and experience over hype and flashiness.
This team has grown up in real time.
This team has earned everything the hard way.
And we’re still here.
Not by accident.
Not by luck.
But by grit. By buy-in. By belief.
So I guess there's only one thing left to do.

In Houston downtown and there are a lot of Nebraska fans here. I;ve seen as many Illinois fans as Iowa and probably 30 Nebraska fans for every one Iowa or Illinois fan (at least by appearances). Going be heartbreaking for them…
Thanks for your man-on-the-scene reporting!

But ugh! Nebraska had been puffing out their chests about filling up Houston like they did OKC. Was hoping it was largely bluster.

So here's what you need to do: convene all Hawk and Illini fans together and get a NATO style cheering pact agreed upon.

Go Hawks! Go Illini!

1980…Philly at the Spectrum beat Syracuse on Friday night and Georgetown on Sunday. I was there. Never forget it. Partied Saturday night with Mac McCausland and Ken Burmeister.
