I agree, but as many have said, we're likely looking at OT. Ferrari will wrestle most of the match from his knees, and the Iowa faithful will be begging for stalling on Rocco. Lol
At Carver the opposing wrestler can be winning 13-4 and the Hawk faithful still sing "heeeessss staaaalllllinnnnn!" The guy wrestling the Hawk is always stalling, it is what they have been taught and all they know.

I think Calliendo is hands down Iowa's best and remains their ismost aggressive wrestler (Angelo insert yawn here).

Calliendo has clearly separated himself as the #2 wrestler in the land at 165, on a tier of his own by a good amount over #3 and below.

This isn't the first time we have seen this where Iowa has a elite guy that will never win a NC, but had it not been for a PSU wrestler he would have been a multi time champ.

Messenbrink is just that good, and so was Zain over Sorensen.
Calliendo lost to Lockett I thought. At the ok state duals thingy.

Why do so many people think our undefeated returning/formal finalist is the underdog at 184? I don’t.

Slight underdog. At Carver. One year separated from the finals at a lower weight. Also, while a finalist, he had 5 loses with 2 against Ruth.

And, most importantly, Angelo is Iowa's #1 hope at an individual title. An upset sounds nicer and will bring more entertainment on HR than Welsh winning as the favorite.

Brands has lost whatever's left of his psychotic squirrel mind.

Says the Penn State dynasty will not happen. Where has psycho-squirrel #1 been the last 15 years? It has happened, it is happening.

To borrow a quote from Cato the Elder:

Ceterum (autem) censeo Iowum esse delendam

Furthermore, I think that Iowa must be destroyed.

There are two Iowa wrestlers I don't hate with every fiber of my being.

Caliendo and Kennedy. They show up, shoot, and counter.

Ayala, Fiat, Kueter sicken me.

Is this the week we sneak onto Iowa's campus in the middle of the night, glue blue and white lions on their welcome sign, and paint a Penn State singlet on the Gable statue?

What am I saying. Such antics are reserved for rivals. I'm sure Cael is just trying to decide whether to reward some of our room guys with the chance to wrestle in the once-hallowed coliseum of an ancient dynasty Friday night.
Repaint the tunnel blue/white.

Poor GIA Media have to listen to that and act like he said something. “Thanks Tom for letting us know that you know where you’re wrestling next week. We’re all clued-in now. You’re the best.”
I’ve heard GIA Media guys have left to take PAID IOWA HATER jobs for less money

I don’t see losing to the Big Ten Champion two years ago as a true freshman and then avenging those losses by beating him at NCAAs as the embarrassment that Flo and others seem to think it is.

It's not an embarrassment and I haven't seen anyone call it that. Rocco will get the chance to be the new #1 with a win on Friday.

The WrestleStat algorithm has Blaze, Davis and Barr (!) losing and Lilledahl, Duke, Messenbrink, Haines, Welsh, and Mirasola winning be two points or fewer.

if you don’t think this is going to be a barn burner, you don’t believe in sCiEnCe.
You could say Blaze could lose , but Davis who beat Bailey and Bailey has looked horrible this year is silly, as for Barr the math just doesn't add up.

The theoretical cases for upsets...
- 25 - history between the two
- 33 - perhaps Blaze has never seen a slide by before
- 41 - newly back in the saddle
- 49 - LOL
- 57 - LOL
- 65 - they're both really good
- 74 - they're both really tough hombres
- 84 - PSU underdog - coin flip SV pick 'em
- 97 - resistable force v. movable object (i.e., newborn-depleted strength v recently back gas tank?)
- 85 - PSU underdog - intriguing battle of the undersized

That's the one I want to see the most.
If you watch Ferrari's past matches including the one against CStar last year, you'll see that he is very quick to scramble and catch the outside leg whenever someone penetrates to make a leg attack on one side. Most of the time, he then just holds on for a stalemate. I'm not as good a technician as some of the guys posting here, but whatever Rocco does, he needs to be ready for Ferrari's scramble whenever he initiates a takedown. The best option, IMO, would be to catch Ferrari high either around the hips or an upper body lock. He wouldn't be able to roll and scramble out of that position.

I feel like Welsh is going to take him down. He looks good shooting that single that is above the knee which would negate some of Ford Festiva's scrambling ability. I also think he has the strength advantage which means he could talk him out a couple times and get a stall point. Then there's Welsh's defense which is pretty good...

On the bright side for Iowa, the last beat down PSU gave them resulted in landing Bassett, another PA “generational” talent! Maybe they can use this defeat to get another future star who will actually stick with the Hawks!

Ferrari will be on his knees and will shoot low attacks. Welsh will have to adapt somehow. Would be good to see stalling called appropriately, even in the 1st period.
