Well... I won’t say they suck because they’ve beat us 3 years in a row and beat the ever loving crap out of us the last two years.

That said. We’re 3-1 in our last 4 including a close loss on the road against a Top 10 Ohio State team. Meanwhile Iowa is 1–3 on a 3 game skid. We are a team flying high on confidence. We are surging and they are struggling just to maintain the status quo this season. We may still lose, but if we do... this will likely be tha last one for a long time.

We are becoming what the Big Ten expected when we joined. Iowa is becoming what we always knew they were/are.

Iowa will be difficult, but we all know that. Nebraska's defense is a Godsend for their offense, they will move the ball and score many points. The question is, can the Husker offense score enough to win? Iowa still has a decent defense, it won't be like the terrible one we saw with Illinois. And special teams, Nebraska is not as good there as is Iowa. Guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

I don't think the B1G really cares how you do, they invited Rutgers & Maryland for Christ's sake. They want revenue & their prized possessions reside in the East.

This is an objective post. Pretty much what I was trying to get at. It's an interesting matchup for strength/weaknesses. Which one will prevail, high flying offensive shootout or will the defenses be the trick?

The general consensus is that Nebraska has made a lot progress this year to the point of being a mid level big ten team. The overall feeling as well, is that Iowa isn’t that good and at best a mid level conference team.

Sounds like 2 evenly matched teams this year going into the game which may come down to prep and coaching. Given this I think we can start keeping score of the Iowa series under Frost without the “year one”’caveat. No reason we shouldn’t expect to beat Iowa.

I can think of one reason...

Defense.

That’s valid but it will come down to our strength (offense) against their strength (defense). They are not that good offensively.

They have 2 true freshman corners as well

If there has been as much progress as has been talked about then we should win at least one of our next 2 games.

Agree, mostly... but I would ask the question, who’s weakness is weaker? Our defense has trouble stopping anybody. We are good enough offensively that we will get some points. But are we bad enough defensively that Iowa and Michigan State get their points as well?

I agree that we can beat Iowa. But I don’t necessarily expect to beat Iowa. If Fant shuts it down these let few weeks, that makes me feel better. Just need to see a bit more still.

Yep I'm not stirring the pot. I was in the stands in Lincoln last year so I'm keeping quite until we finally beat Iowa.

Same way with myself, I have a handful of Hawkeye friends and I can’t pop off right now even though their team is on a downward spiral till we beat them and it’s been 3 long years...

On a side note it was a 70 degree November fb game last year and it was the first time I ever got cheap tickets squarely on the 50 yard line. Thanks Mike Ryley for making those seats so affordable. Lmao :)

It matters naught whether we win or lose. Iowa has always sucked, and will suck for eternity. It’s their defining characteristic.

We have a better offense and they have a much better defense. The key will be can our defense stop them? At this point I have serious doubts.

So Randy, in your opinion, has our D really stopped anyone on our schedule thus far?

Im not randy but we have been winning the turnover game as of late.. that will help. I watched iowa all year with some stupid turnovers and that alone will propel us to a win if we can get some TOs

The while Big Ten West is a lowly mess this year. Nebraska could win if all goes perfect and outscores Iowa. Not going to shut down the Iowa ground game with our defense sadly.

Iowa started a sophomore and a junior at corner against Northwestern.

Some of the biggest complaints from Iowa fans have to do with their lack of a run game. Their offense is far from potent so it’s not the biggest concern of mine. Iowa will still look better than they are offensively due to our defense but they don’t exactly excel at anything.

Their defense on the other hand is where my concerns are.

3 or 4 weeks ago, I felt the same way. But Iowa has been playing ****** football during that timeframe.

Hopefully our boys from the Illinois game show up on special teams. I was happy for them yesterday and they gave us plenty to cheer about.

I think if we were able to run with Ohio State in Columbus then the next two are definitely winnable games as well. I can’t say we’ll win either but it’s certainly not out of the question.

Wrong, we excel at losing games that are decided by 7 points or less.

Does the so so mobility of the Iowa QB Stanley make a difference on the prospects for Iowa to move the ball on the NU defense?

Whoever told you Stanley has "so so" mobility was full of it. There are statues with better wheels than he has. He has to call out to sloths to wait up for him.

Nebraska went from 91st in total offense under Riley in 2017 to 13th so far in under a year with Frost. Meanwhile Iowa is only up to 81st from 105.

We should be able to beat Iowa with our offense alone if we get up early on them. They are really struggling on offense and will be even worse if they don't play their star TE.
TJ Hockenson is their star TE now.

I’d say that it’s a blessing and a bane. A blessing in that our defense wont have to put nearly as much effort in to stopping him as they did Bush. A bane because he’ll probably throw the ball around much better than Bush.

You guys will probably have him in the Heisman discussion after playing our defense. Thats not mean as a flame, just that our defense leaves everything to be desired.

Yes. Especially combined with the fact that Iowa’s rushing game is pretty suspect. They usually have a pretty solid back, but they just lack a good runner at both QB and RB. That makes them pretty one dimensional. That said Stanley has some decent targets and we aren’t exactly world beaters in pass coverage. Despite how crappy our defense is, I don’t expect Iowa to just run up and down the field on us.

I like our chances in a shootout. Our chances aren’t as good in a defensive struggle.
