Ironic that Rettig could have saved Floods' job

I've have always felt that one thing could save Flood,but that he would never do,was to go with Hayden Rettig @ QB.The upside was obvious to observers, & was flashed during his brief playing time,It would have been wildly fan populer, & provided instant respect by opponents.Laviano has been God awful bad.It could not have been worse in the past 4 games + PSU.Still no attempted spark.
If you hitch your wagon to a star,you best give yourself the best chance to succeed.Flood did not & his job is in serious jeopardy.The potential franchise QB will probably walk

With this OL play and playcalling? I doubt it. It looks like we needed to play the QB with the best legs, rather than the best arm. Their blitz was killing us and our OC had no answer.
There are so many reasons why we have a weak offense.

Well we should have found out if he can produce, & get rid of the damn ball.Laviano is abysmal.

No, Flood should have benched Laviano because four straight games without passing for an offensive touchdown is unacceptable for a starting D1 quarterback. The replacement could be Hayden Rettig, Michael Dare, or arguably even Janarion Grant.

I agree. I was convinced for the first half of the season that Rettig should play. But having seen our performance the last 4 games, I'm beginning to understand why he sits. He may be the better talent, but not with this O line. Rettig is a classic, relatively immobile drop back passer (like Hackenberg). He would be a sitting duck with this O line. Laviano is much more mobile and throws decent on the run. I'm betting that as much as we like to criticize the staff, this is the reason Rettig is on the bench.

A good QB is more than being able to throw while running for your life.

In fact I would argue a better QB would stand in the pocket and use better footwork to step up while still looking downfield, and then delivering a well thrown ball to an open man at any distance.

A good QB should also have field sense -- a feel for the game and good gameday IQ.
