Will be a cold day in hell before I go up in a plane with the sole purpose of jumping out of that bit-ch
Edit: I wonder how many of them plan on going back up to jump now?
Wife bought me a tandem jump for my bday years ago. It was awesome. Every other adrenaline thing I've done, you could say, "it's sorta like.....". There is nothing I've found that is sorta like jumping out of a plane.

Is it the moment when you think, this might be the last 14 seconds of my life, and I'm dying while strapped to another dude?

It is the surprising absence of the sense of falling. 10k ft and 7k foot look pretty much the same. You know you're falling academically (saw a small cloud go by) but you can't perceive with depth perception that you are falling. Bungee jumping, cliff jumping, etc. all have that visual perception of falling.

The wife bought it? Did she happen to bump your life insurance policy up the week before?**

Kidding, I've done it too and loved it. Still have a videotape of the jump somewhere. Also jumped off the Stratosphere in Vegas a few years ago - it was actually somehow scarier than the plane jump, maybe because it's still high enough that you want to shitt your pants (900 feet or so), but close enough to the ground so that you can see the concrete and can definitely tell you're falling.

The skydiving was before kids, however. Probably not going to do much of that stuff again at this point.

I can think of many others things I’d rather do for fun than voluntarily jumping out of a plane. Only scenario is if I was in the military and required to do so - only way it sqares in my mind.

I am a pilot, low hours and certainly not a well seasoned pilot. I lost my medical due to some min-strokes not long after topping the 100 hr mark as a pilot.

Here are a couple things I won't do:
1) Recovery spin training - glad that requirement changed. Now, we just do stall training
2) Practice or demonstrate stalls in a helicopter (done at altitude)
3) Jump out of a perfectly good airplane. I may do this one before the first two.

This list isn't all inclusive but you get the jest.

I found out that once the parachute opens, it's great.
I know what you're saying, once it opens and you can relax, it's a nice ride, but I found the freefall time much more fun. I like going fast.

It also may have something to do with the discomfort I endured the instant the parachute opened. It was like going 100 mph in a car with the top down, then slamming the brakes down to 10 mph in an instant - only in this case, the seatbelt is right up under and around your balls.

Was this when you and Tom were filming mission impossible 9?

I love it. Been 12 times and each time is an adrenaline rush like nothing else. Never a feeling of falling. First time without a tandem was pretty wild. All on you. But it’s a beautiful experience
That's awesome. Haven't done the solo yet but I want to.

The guy I was hooked to for the tandem asked me after the chute opened if I just wanted to get to the ground or have some adventure. I of course said let's go. He starter turning circles hard one direction and then all of a sudden switched to turning the other direction. In the transition, there was a brief second when I could see the parachute between myself and the ground. That was scarier that than jumping out of the plane. Being upside down in a parachute made me question my choice making but was a rush.

Me too. I went to Eutaw Alabama while going to State and got certified. Jumped 6 times and loved the free falls. My first jump was static line and I was doing the arch, look, reach and pull routine that they taught us. Before the parachute deployed I didn't remember anything. When I got on the ground the instructor told me I did everything perfect. I said good because I don't remember. After the first jump I was fine and ready for the next jump. We even packed our own chutes.

I suppose the old joke about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is not longer pertinent.

One of my golf buddies was a paratrooper in the Army. Nice guy, but must be crazy.

The main assistance i will give; make sure the wang isn’t under the straps. I’ve never seen it or heard of it, but it would definitely ruin your life as a man. But now a days….. Nevermind. Let’s not lock this one

I have a cousin who I ve always been close with that was an Army Ranger. He had thousands of jumps and he said he never enjoyed a one of them. He said that a HALO night jump was more terrifying than charging into an enemy occupied building.
