Is 8-4 a disappointment now?

We will probably still lose to Alabama and LSU, but losing more than 1 to Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Arkansas (who looks pretty bad now against ULM, win or lose) would be disappointing, so I'll say yes. 10-2 actually seems in reach now, and 9-3 seems likely.

I somewhat hate to agree because I've learned a thing or two about being too optimistic, but the main reason why I may say yes is depending on who the losses are to and how they happen.

Some of these teams (like Arkansas and aTm) could vastly improve and become a tough and physical game. But if we end up losing to teams that we should beat (like Kentucky and others alike), or if the loses are uninspired or come down to blown/phantom calls...then yea... I can say an 8-4 record could be disappointing, but not so much to kill the season for me.

Good lord no. I want us to get to where it is but we were 6-6 last year and are three years removed from a losing season.

So if we lose to Arkansas and Texas A&M you won't be disappointed? I sure will.

Good lord, that's some high expectations. 7-5 is fine with me. Just keep on going to bowl games.

6-6 to me is no better than 5-6 was before we went to 12 games. Although you get a bowl, the quality of football played is not actually better. As far as what record is a disappointment, I look at it more as a week-by-week thing. One of the great things about football is how unique each game is. This Arkansas team that got beat by ULM may put up 50 points on somebody good in the next few weeks. Auburn might even have a good game or two before it is over. That said, I personally think we are at the level that allows us to have a chance in every game we play this season, even against Satan and company to the east of paradise.

Of course will.....

as always when we lose. We have set ourselves up to do better now but dissapointed over all with 8-4, you have to be kidding. We were 6-6 last year.

I think we have to beat Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. I think we have to beat either Tennessee or Texas A&M. If we don't do that, I will be disappointed. I'm with you. 9-3, or disappointment.

Nothing like 6 wins was last year. I'd be happy with a new years eve game in Atlanta or return trip to Jacksonville.

Be more happy in Dallas tho.

7-5 is "fine" with you? And we wonder why we are a third-tier team.

Obviously I would prefer 7-5 to 6-6 or worse, but going 7-5 against our soft schedule would be embarrassing.
LSU and Alabama I can forgive, but losing three MORE SEC teams would be embarrassing:
Kentucky is ****. It would be inexcusable to lose. We are objectively better than Kentucky.
Tennessee may or may not be ****, leaning yes. We have them at home and are at least the favorite.
Texas A&M is ****. It would be inexcusable to lose. We are objectively better than Texas A&M.
Arkansas may or may not be ****, leaning yes. We have them at home and are at least the favorite after today's loss.
Ole Miss is ****. It would be inexcusable to lose. We are objectively better than Ole Miss.

Being happy going 2-3 against that group we should go 5-0 against is inexcusable, and fans being "fine" with that are holding us back as a program.

You are making alot of assumptions. You are assuming that Tennessee and TAMU are bad. There's still alot of football to be played between now and when State plays them. Auburn was extremely ****** today but yet we are still great. I'm sorry I don't meet your expectations for state I guess I'm a bad fan. Poor me.

Now you're making me look retarded for somewhat agreeing with you. How are you leaning in the direction that Tennessee and Arkansas are **** and blatantly saying that aTm is? Have you not watched enough football? There's been a handful of times were pretty good teams lose to subpar teams, and not only that...but we're only 2 games into the season.

****.. we may not be as good as we think we are, and we could still lose to teams that many feel we have no business losing to. ****, it's happened quite a few times already in just two weeks. A lot can happen, and just because something bad may happen, doesn't necessarily mean the season was a failure.

I can always tweak my expectations if Tennessee, Arkansas, or Texas A&M looks better all of a sudden. But as of right now, I'd be disappointed if we go 1-2 against those 3 when we have them all at home. I'm not saying it makes the season a complete failure, but as of right now, we should be favored against everyone except LSU and Alabama.

Yeah, but we don't play them right now. We play all of them damn near back to back which means a lot of things could happen. But I see what you're saying, but I'm also thinking you may need to taper your expectations a little or at least just take things more by a game by game basis.

I'm going to have to go with the people that say that it depends on how things play out with the other teams. The biggest thing that we have in our favor is most of our swing games are in Starkville. Advantage us.

To clarify- we don't know if Arkansas is going to have Tyler Wilson at this point. They are clearly much better with him. If they don't have him- I think we will beat them about like we did Auburn. With him and assuming he's healthy- I still feel good about our chances, but it will be a lot closer. Tennessee is good on offense- but I'm not so sure about their defense yet.

To be honest- with where we are as a program. I would be OK with an 8-4 season. Especially this year because some SEC teams are down- we should be able to get into a really good bowl with that. I would think a 9-3, 10-2 season would put us in the Cotton Bowl. 8 wins probably gets us either a NYD bowl or at worst the Peach/Chik-Fil-A Bowl.
