I was under the impression that he was going to focus on Oxycodone/Oxycontin, which apparently really is an epidemic in the coal fields of West Virginia, southwest Virginia, and Eastern Kentucky. You mean when he comes to talk about the heroin epidemic? If that topic feels like "scolding" to you, then maybe there are some life choices you should re-examine

Who? The Drs who prescribe it like candy? The drug companies? The FDA? Or the politicians? It is bad. It is close to epidemic. And it needs more than just "talk" to fix it. Bust these people's a$$es and stop putting them in rehabs. I'm sick of it.

I know a lot of Drs and clinics wont prescribe them. The most my doc will give for pain is lortab.Who? The Drs who prescribe it like candy? The drug companies? The FDA? Or the politicians?
Right, that would be the list I asked above. I've had more than 1 of my friends and a couple of family members (including my 70 year old father) get addicted to these things and in every case it started with a legitimate injury and need. In all but one case they have kicked it through various methods of intervention. One of my best friends had back surgery and 3 years later he had $500 a day habit and was checking in to rehab and now spends 3 nights a week hanging out in church basements. He just celebrated 5 years but he was damn near on his way to the pokey at his low point. This isn't some dumb hill jack from Boone County. This an educated professional.Start with those a$$holes abusing prescription pills.

You should educate yourself a little on how this happened. You think it's coincidence they started running $39 flights between Huntington and Orlando? Why Huntington is called little Detroit? You could fly on a Monday, step off the plane, drive 5 miles to these dispensing clinics in FL and pickup a couple thousand pills, back on the plane on Tues. distribute on Wed/Thur in WV and catch a flight home to Det on Fri with your cash. It was known as the Oxy Express. Up until about 5 years ago, damn near every family practitioner I knew of in WV would write a script for an opiate like it was a Z-pack. Now when the regulations caught up with Florida and the pills started getting harder to get, in comes Detroit with the smack. Now we have daily overdoses on the horse. Growing up in Beckley, heroin was something in the movies. **** is everywhere from what I'm told by friends still there in the PD and some of my in laws back in Huntington. It's whacky.
Are the beaners a problem? Sure. It starts with my list though. These things are 1000 times worse than ludes ever were.

Say what you want, but people who get "addicted" are just as to blame as those who prescribe and those who sell
I was going to call him a simpleton but my pledge of respect towards others and all....It would be a wonderful world if everything was that simple.

You do realize that some people are less likely to become addicted to opiates but it is a small percentage. There is a small percentage of the population that is unaffected by morphine. Just because you wanted to quit pills doesnt mean everyone can.I'm very well educated. Had one cousin die and another go to prison for it. Very well aware of the problems. However, I've been on pain pills before. Have you? I've had surgeries that required them. Have you? Guess what....I've never gotten addicted to them. In fact, I couldn't wait to stop taking them. Say what you want, but people who get "addicted" are just as to blame as those who prescribe and those who sell. SORRY! You seem bias because you cannot separate family from druggies. That's what mine were, DRUGGIES! They ceased being family when they ignored all warnings, all attempted rehabs, and continued down their dark path. If my cousin who overdosed and died would have been put in the slammer by the cop who stopped him and searched and found the pills instead of letting him go because "he knew him" then maybe he'd be alive today. Or maybe not. But he made his choice. You and I made our choice to not abuse or use.
Yea buddy, if anyone fits the profile of a pill seeking addict, it was my 70 year old father who is a prominent business owner and pillar of his rural community. The man made his millions by having no self control. /insert sad yet sarcastic eye roll.It is that simple. Meth? Yeah, doctors are prescribing that. [eyeroll]Pain pill addiction? People still have something called SELF-CONTROL! Stop making excuses. Facts are facts.
One thing that is helping people with opiate addiction is medical marijuana. According to a JAMA study:You do realize that some people are less likely to become addicted to opiates but it is a small percentage. There is a small percentage of the population that is unaffected by morphine. Just because you wanted to quit pills doesnt mean everyone can.
Just where exactly does your addict father liveRight, that would be the list I asked above. Hmmm never heard that before. Wonder if Al-Anon should get in touch with you for your clinical genius.Well, must be some skeletons in the closet that you weren't aware of. Addicts are all the same. Sorry if that is an insult, but it's how it is. No excuses just because he's your father or it was my dead cousin. Facts are facts. Not all "druggies" are homeless or trailer park people buddy.
I think that is a good idea. It has its oroblems but it is better that zombie pill seekers. One thing that is helping people with opiate addiction is medical marijuana. According to a JAMA study:
“States with medical cannabis laws had a 24.8% lower mean annual opioid overdose mortality rate compared with states without medical cannabis laws.”

I haven't really seen the drawbacks to the medicinal use states. I admittedly don't follow that closely though. I'm all for the devils lettuce being legalized though.I think that is a good idea. It has its oroblems but it is better that zombie pill seekers.
