Dan is interviewing him about the HBO series and Im paraphrasing but here what he said.
"The Auburn coaching satff was having to jump up on the tables just to convince Chizik to give Cam a scholarship. There is no possible way they paid him."

Dan asked why would Mississippi State pay him and not Auburn and he said something to the effect of he knew MSU would pay because we offered his good friend's girlfriend the head cheerleader position so he would come here to play football....15 years ago. Now thats good evidence that we are paying players and Auburn isnt.</p> Edit because its not the Steelers TE, its Saints/former Auburn FB

Kinda funny how when Dan asked him if this was Alabama would he be more skeptical and he said "yes...because I know how much they paid Shaun Alexander" then sorta laughed it off and said he was just kidding. But he certainly didn't hesitate to start talking Saban at LSU and how he did he turn Alabama around so quickly. It began to sound like arguments you got into in elementary school in support of your team. He reminded me of a Bulldog buddy that WILL NOT HERE anything negative about Miss. State and would complain that officials cost us a basketball game we lose by 20. He's just an Auburn homer who happened to play football. And I'm not sure I understand Heath Evans and Chizik complaining that no one is interviewing players who say they didn't get paid. That really makes you look stupid and desperate.

A few points:

[list type=decimal][*]Everyone in the SEC cheats except Auburn of course[*]Takeo Spikes, Ronnie Brown, Cadillac Williams never got a dime, and if they did they would openly share it with Evans[*]Those 4 former players are lying because Heath Evans said so

From my understanding, what those 4 players did was very unorthodox.

It's sort of the unwritten rule that you don't talk about what you got. I'm assuming that's because the system exists (really at all schools in some fashion) so that players can benefit from the services they are providing the university. If the roof is blown off of it and they crack down on the system, they are not only hurting the university that "cheated", but they're limiting the opportunities for future players.

That's why I have to wonder just a little bit if HBO offered these guys money to come forward with their stories. I think the stories are true, but I can't imagine players openly volunteering this type of information that often without some incentive.

ETA: A good example is Erick Dickerson. He still won't talk about any incentives he received at SMU, and will deny he received any, when it's pretty clear that he would've had to have been on the payroll. It's been about 30 years and he still won't say a word about it. That's the typical rule within the player fraternity.

It was hard to listen to the guy because he is so jaded. Evans probably never got paid because Auburn didnt have to pay him to come to school there but its hard to think he honestly believes the crap he was saying. Who the hell would honestly come out against there school if they were paid and had a good experience, like Brown, Williams and Spikes?

i used to think i hated bama and ole miss, but auburn has really entered a whole new level of hate for me. not just the repeated accusation of cheating, but the total denial and ridiculous spin by the entire fan base for every single minor issue. hell, i was talking to an auburn guy earlier and said it was kinda weird that malzahn claims he didn't watch the hbo special, but that i believe he did watch it, just is publicly using that to fend off questions. i was immediately attacked that "why would anyone ask malzahn questions when he wasn't there during that time?!?!" and "why would he lie?!?!" etc etc etc. the immediate defensiveness was ridiculous. i wasn't even badmouthing malzahn, i would probably say the same thing to try to avoid as much questioning by the media as i could.

But it's as much about the future as anything.

Stanley McGlover will never be able to come back to Auburn. He'll never be recognized on the field before a game. He'll never be on an Auburn Radio broadcast now.

I'm pretty sure McGlover was All SEC his sr year, but he will be erased from Auburn history and future.

You don't pay your fullback in college. Growing up an Auburn fan, I always loved Heath Evans. I got to go the the 2000 SEC Championship game when Auburngot destroyed byFlorida, and he was the only guy that actually kept playing in the 4th quarter after the game was already decided. But as much as I like his opinions he's made about the NFL on First Take, and admired how he played in college, he is totally off base here.

Auburn pays players, along with every other SEC school, and it's ignorant to think it doesn't happen at your school while accusing every other school. I will agree the guys coming out saying this stuff aren't making the big bucks and some sort of payment from HBO could be motivation for this. But for Auburn fans and alumni to realistically think all of these guys are making it up? That doesn't make sense.

..if you saw that ESPN special on all the cheating SMU did back in the day, Erick Dickerson freely admitted his senior year in high school he was riding around in a brand new Trans Am bought for him by Texas A&M.

Of course, even though Dickerson blew the whistle on Texas A&M, it was SMU who bore the brunt. I guess the ultimate joke was on Texas A&M, however, because they wasted a brand new Trans Am on a guy who never had any intention of signing with Texas A&M.

I would like to see a study of how many untold thousands of dollars college football programs waste on prima donna recruits who accept the bribe but then end up signing with another school. Maybe the NCAA can conduct that study.

More like 50+. Don't forget they went on probation in 57 (last NC they won) and got hit again (58) before they were off the first probation. Shug cheated blatantly, Barfield was a dumbass but he probably did too, and Dye wrote the 2nd edition on cheating, and now we find out Tubs may have been openly cheating too. I wish Bowden would tell all he knows. Never liked the little munchkin, but I'd love to know what he does about Auburn's dirty little secrets.

Or how much money has been wasted on players who don't ever pan out. Take a Pat Patterson type that sees limited action and then gets the boot.

That's one reason why even if I became the next Dickie Scruggs (without the bribery and jail time), I wouldn't invest a penny in paying players, even though I know that part of the game is a necessary evil.
