Update

This is just the latest chapter in the ongoing Belichick-Hudson saga that continues to create complications for UNC — and for athletic director Bubba Cunningham, who reportedly didn’t want Belichick hired in the first place.

“The UNC AD preferred to go younger after he fired 73-year-old Mack Brown following a 44–33 record in six seasons in Chapel Hill,” CBS Sports’ John Talty wrote.

Cunningham may not have to deal with the situation much longer.

Michigan State recently parted ways with athletic director Alan Haller, and according to The Detroit Free Press’ Chris Solari, Cunningham is considered a top candidate to replace him.

His family is feeding negative information to the press.
EDIT: Probably her family!

Too much hoopla over all this, a sign that we need for football season to get here.

Saving all the favorite songs, movies, guitar players, singers, etc. threads for the ninety days countdown. This is just filler to keep the board from getting dusty.
However, UNC has put themselves in a very strange situation, unnecessarily!!!

UNC had a perfectly good old coach in Mack Brown. Why go out and get another old coach with no experience in the college game?

Belichick hire was a dumb move in general. He wasn't very good without Brady and he won't have Brady at UNC.

I think it was a worthwhile gamble for UNC. Nobody's expecting UNC football to light up the college football world, so if this doesn't work out, no big loss. At least it has UNC football in the spotlight and getting talked about. Any other hire, even if it produced better results, would have gotten zero coverage for them.

There's a low likelihood it'll work out.

This is a typical South Carolina hire until the last couple. We were good about getting the legendary coach and give them that retirement contract.

Not all publicity is good publicity, especially when it highlights the negative.
The publicity is really only highlighting the dumb thing the UNC Administration has done.

I have to disagree. UNC is always just outside the top tier of programs and a perennial underachiever. They are in a state with a good deal of talent and are close to other states with talent and the campus is very nice and the school is well regarded. I think a good coach could build a winning program fairly quickly. UNC has plenty of money and a wealthy alumni base. A good coach would have all the tools he needed to build a strong team fairly quickly.

Mack Brown was a good short term hire and he had them pretty respectable until he just got too old. Belichick is a seriously dumb hire. He is already too old and he has zero experience in the college game. His record with and without Brady tells me all I need to know about him as a coach. Sure, he has put them in the spotlight but only because of his creepy relationship with a head case young girl. That isn't the kind of attention programs seek.

Not really sure I see that. Going back to 1983, they have finished ranked in the top 25 just 6 times. We've had 10 ranked seasons over the same span.

I would add to this that I just don't see Belichick having the communication skills to be a good college coach in this climate. You are telling me that Belichick is going to go out and build the relationships to keep their in-state players at home (and NC has a lot of good players)? Belichick couldn't even handle the issue regarding his relationship well in an interview. Girl shouldn't haven't been in the interview and he could have kindly just said no comment on the matter. That is part of the reason why all this fuss is going on right now.

I see them and NC State as both being about the same. Both generally start the season ranked and get good preseason press but fade as the season goes on. I think UNC has typically viewed football season as the countdown to basketball season. They are a lot like Kentucky in that respect, another team that should do better in football than they do. UNC has everything a school needs to be strong in football, they have just never made football enough of a priority to take the next step.

Hiring Belichick signaled that they are at least thinking more seriously about football even if their execution of the new attitude is poor. If they had hired Chadwell, I think they would have been an ACC championship contender within three years.

The splash they were striving for might turn into a splat.

That's where I'm sure the thinking was "why not?" Outside of the 2 great Mack Brown seasons from the 90s which had them ranked in the top 10, They have been largely mediocre. One double-digit win season since 1998. I don't think the Belichick hire will work, but it's getting them a lot of buzz, probably getting them into some recruits' living rooms where they otherwise wouldn't. And, if he sticks it out, the entire football world, college and pro, will be watching to see how they do this season. I don't give 2 flips about UNC, but I'll be watching to see how they do. Maybe UNC is going the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" route.

Don't think Bud Light felt that ''there's no such thing as bad publicity" was really true!

And she really doesn’t look all that great. I’ve seen way better at Carolina football games.
