Is Bray really that much better than Russell?

Let's look at the numbers. Both have played 5 games.

Bray has completed 61% of his passes.
Russell has completed 57% of his passes.

Bray has thrown for 1,582 yards.
Russell has thrown for 1,091 yards.

Bray has thrown for 14 TD's.
Russell has thrown for 10 TD's.

Here is the difference - Bray has thrown 48 more pass attempts (193 to 145) and completed 36 more (118 to 82).

That means in 48 more attempts he has only accounted for 491 more yards and 4 TD's. In yards per completion they are almost even (13.4 Bray to 13.3 Russell).

Bray has also thrown 6 INT's to Russell's 1.

Lastly, the QB rating. Bray slightly edges out Russell 147.7 to 141.1.

Looks to me like one of the "premiere" QB's in the league is only marginally better than Tyler Russell.

I'll add something else to it. I think Russell is a better leader

Bray is a punk. I just get the impression his priorities are 1. personal stats and 2. team wins. Sort of the same impression I have of Jay Cutler.

Bray has also played against two of the SEC's top 5-6 defenses- Tyler hasnt. Tyler is playing pretty well, but his biggest tests are still in front of him.

If Russell has proven one thing to me this year, it has nothing to do with stat's --- he is one tough SOB. He has taken a number of tough shots and bounced right back up.

I also like how even keel he's been...doesn't get too high or too low....His toughness and consistency make him a good leader that I think our team responds to.

I think Tyler will have his breakout game against TN. Russell is definitely better than Bray.

Russell has had a lot of passes dropped by receivers when the ball was right in their hands with nobody around. So Tyler can't be faulted for those. Unless Bray has had as many, then Russell's completion percentage would be at or very near Bray's.

He has two really good recievers. I don't think their run game is the best. Stoping them is going to come down to our front seven. Can they stop the run and can they get to Bray.

I'll be honest (and let me preface this with saying I am a HUGE Russell fan #1 because he sat on the bench for three years and you never heard a peep from him about being dissatisfied. #2 I LOVE his feet in the drop back). One thing he needs to improve on is field vision. KY game he threw a pass where the safety was cheating over, AL or LSU pick sixes that ball. And another play he took a sack when a DE was shedding a block and he was totally surprised when he was in his face and most aware QB's would have had that ball out of bounds by 30 yards. That being said, I think Russsell is more composed, knows his progression better, and is slightly more accurate. Bray has a stronger arm has better field vision, and is a better improviser. So Push.

The reason why he was surprised is because his eyes were downfield. That's the mark of a good qb.

I think we beat the ever living **** out of UT Saturday. I felt the AU game could get ugly (look at my pprevious posts about it) and i feel the same this week.

To me, it's all about our receivers. Ours need to step up, get OPEN, and catch the damn ball. We can't live on Bumphis' 5 yard catch and runs forever.

His field vision is bad?

Did you see the throw he made to Bumphis for a TD where he threaded the needle perfectly? The pass to Perkins to get a key first down? The TD pass to Marcus after everything was covered up? The man has one INT this year- in a game where a ball floated on him where he was trying to throw a deep out with a hurt wrist. Chris Smith has more turnovers than Tyler at this point. How many teams can say that a WR has more TO's than their QB five games in?

He actually can take more risks like that because he is so accurate and he has a rocket launcher for an arm. That's why I disagree with you that LSU and Alabama would pick those passes off.

I really thought he did a lot better in the UK game as far as holding onto the ball too long. He has to wait on the WR's to get open. The other choice is to throw it away or try to force it or throw it too soon. And no, I'm not saying the WR's are at fault either. He got hit a lot because UK brought pressure a lot. In fact, one time he got hit and it probably should have in all honesty been called roughing the passer.

If we play a lot of man in order to bring pressure, I'm going to be a little nervous about their tight end. Mychal Rivera is 3rd this season in receiving yards and receptions for UT. I haven't paid attention to Skinner in man coverage this season, and I'm guessing we'll see that match up a lot more (unless he's part of the blitz scheme). Anybody else a little nervous about that match up or has Skinner been pretty solid in coverage?

I think his vision is pretty good. There was one pass in the first quarter where the safety broke on the ball and because of a) Tyler's arm strength and b) the speed (and lack thereof) of the safety, it looked perfect, but I thought at the time that LSU or Bama and maybe even Tennessee would be just a little faster and intercept it.
