Is it because the QB not playing is always better...

when the team is struggling or am I just crazy because I wish Wes Carroll was still here. I just think he would have thrived in this offense.

i have to agree though, he would have done well in this offense. i still haven't figured out why he couldn't wait to get the hell out. you would think that crooked hat getting out of town would have given him some pause.

He's not a better runner than Lee is and he's a worse passer. In a couple of years when he's not even starting for whichever the hell Sunbelt team he transferred to (and we're winning games) nobody will be talking about "what if he hadn't transferred."

and he disagrees. He didn't say why, but he doesn't think we'd have had any more success THIS YEAR with Carroll. (As a side note, I liked his interview. The guy really pays attention and gives good takes on MSU football. I never would have thought this, but I think Matty Ballgame may have a future as a color guy.)

But back to your point, the only reason I could think of us not being better off with Carroll would be that it would be his first year in this system, too. I'm not sure anyone we've had in the last decade was either smart enough to pick up the system as quickly as Lee has, or physically gifted enough so that it wouldn't matter. Maybe Omarr.

...I just don't see it. I think Lee is at least as fast as Carroll, and his arm is much, much better.

Croom created a QB controversy for no reason. It messed with Carrol's head. Who sits their starting QB coming off an 8 win season?

and has been doing an outstanding job. I've watched all 3 so far and the whole production is top notch (not ESPN quality or anything, but damn good for what it is). They're taking this Friday off then finish up with West Jones - Wayne County on 9/23 and Biloxi - Gulfport on 9/30 (not sure about that date).

....and even though I think Lee is the better player, sitting Carroll for the final drive against La. Tech and asking a walkon transfer in his first game to lead the team down the field to a win was another in a long line of horrible in-game decisions, especially considering Carroll had led us to 3-4 4th quarter comebacks the year before. Then, he inexplicably won't play Lee the next week when Carroll was horrible against Auburn. Wouldn't even try him out for a series. Makes absolutely no sense.

No doubt Crxxm should have handled things a lot better, but the reason Carroll got the hell out of Starkville was because he knew he would never beat Lee out this year and then we'd have Russell coming in. He saw the writing on the wall and transferred down where he thinks he may have a shot at playing.

are full of ****. When Wes was pressed into service as a freshman he tied the NCAA record for competions without an interception with less talent at WR than we have now. He did not have a rifle for an arm but he played the game with his head. He knew when to stand in the pocket and when to tuck it and run. He won games by being an athlete. His downfall came, not when he was "beaten out" for the starting job by Lee. It came when Croom tried to force him into the mold of a pocket passer just like he did with Omar. Both were coached to NOT run the ball. Just watch Wes through 2007 compared to early 2008. In 2007 he had the freedom to run if no passing options opened. After a year of coaching under Croom in 2008 he would scramble then either take the sack or throw it away-COACHED to play that way. Omar one said if he tucked it and ran he got in trouble.

Carroll would have flourished in this offense because he would hafve had the freedom to do what he did best-make plays. We would not have this BS quarterback "controversy." He would be the man while Russell developed.

Carroll's stats from his FR season:

PASSING GP-GS Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yds TD Lng Avg/G
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wesley Carroll 13-9 104.56 134-255-7 52.5 1392 9 80 107.1

Carroll's and Lee's stats from 2008:

PASSING GP-GS Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yds TD Lng Avg/G
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tyson Lee 11-8 112.96 153-260-5 58.8 1519 7 41 138.1
Wesley Carroll 7-4 85.17 55-115-7 47.8 560 3 50 80.0

Yeah, I'm really full of **** for suggesting that Lee is a better passer than Carroll. Note that even in 2007 his passing stats were worse than Lee's in 2008. And this is playing in the same offense, with the same coach, and the same receivers.

We had won 8 games, including a bowl game, the year before. Croom takes Carroll to SEC Media Days before the season. Yet he plans to use 2 QBs to start the next season, and one of them is Tyson Freaking Lee?

The man was clueless. The fact that in his fifth season at the helm a walk-on was his starting QB proves as much.

Wow, Lee had more than TWICE as many attempts, with 2 fewer interceptions. Very interesting.

Yes, just as Mr. Snead is experiencing this year if you don't feel confident in the pocket it will really hurt your performance. Last year our line was the worst I have ever seen and we have had some bad ones. With that said Wes's arm strength was a huge problem, once good db's know you are not capable of making certain types of throws they will eat your lunch, Wes could not throw the deep ball.

The guy in waiting, or the guy that almost was, is ALWAYS the QB we should be playing with - the next big thing, the key to glory, etc.
