Is it confirmed that CBS has 1st pick for State / Bama broadcast?

I know it occasionally flips to ESPN. Clearly, whoever has it is holding the option through the weekend.

CBS always has 1st choice. When they have a double header, they get the 1st and 4th choice, but they always have the 1st choice.

Thought ESPN gets 1st option for 2 weeks of the season...

Picks are done two weeks in advance. CBS has the option twice per year to defer their decision a week (until the Monday before the games in question) to make their choice. Our game has been deferred and the Auburn/Georgia game. Bama beats LSU and we are the CBS game. Bama loses and they may go with Auburn/Georgia. Whoever they don't pickup will be the ESPN prime time game.

I have never heard anything about ESPN getting to pick before CBS. I thought their contract made them kings of the show.

CBS doesn't carry an SEC game the first 2 weeks of the season because they carry the US Open tennis tournament. The US Open is going to ESPN starting in 2015 (first time in 50 years or so it hasn't been on CBS). I assume CBS will televise the SEC those weeks and maybe lose their 2 double header weeks later in the season.

I would much sooner ESPN carry it. I hate CBS. Their commercial breaks make the games last forever and Gary Danielson has been a **** towards this team in the other 2 games they have covered. Give me Dreamy Jesse and Tessitore ANYDAY over Verne and Gary.

Probably better for getting the win to play at 2:30pm. Commentators are relatively unimportant.

CBS broadcasts definitely favor the defense because of all the stoppage of play for commercials.

I can't understand why anyone would rather play an SEC road game at night (In Bryant-Denny, for that matter) just to get better TV commentators. Put it on mute, for crying out loud.

I agree that the CBS day slot is better for our team getting the win but I really hate the human egg and Gary's commentating. I"m expecting them to openly pull against us unless we somehow get up big. I wish I could sync up the radio broadcast and the game. What I may do is put on some James Taylor during the game to try and keep myself calm.

Long range forecast for next weekend. Highs in the 40's lows in the 20's according to James spann , local meteorologist. I have been to 4 games vs bama in ttown. The only one we won was the day game in 2006. I will be there this year. Hoping for a day game regardless of who the announcers are.

I can't figure out CBS on this one. All I can come up with is:

1) Trying not to show MSU for a third time
2) Nation will tune in to see if Gurly and crew can knock out Auburn
3) CBS thinks Bama may lose against LSU
4) CBS thinks the Bama MSU game won't be close

Auburn will beat A&M this weekend. Georgia will beat Kentucky.

Thoughts?

Well everybody seems to be thinking that Alabama will run the table or at least has the best chance to, so why wouldn't they just go ahead and choose MSU/Bama? I guess the hype of Gurley returning could draw some extra eyes. It's all about ratings.

I would guess

those opposed to CBS games feel that way based upon the entertainment (game production) value, not necessarily from a "chances State wins" perspective. The CBS broadcasts are just terrible, in that sense.

I'm sure the, "Is M-State really really for real? Part III" theme will drive...

...pretty strong ratings, particularly after ESPN gets through pumping the theme all week for Gameday. But the degree of game hype is still LSU-win dependent.

CBS has no reason not to use their option for this week, so they did.

Georgia has lost to both South Carolina and Florida. I don't think them beating anybody is a certainty. They're the most Jekyll & Hyde team you'll ever see. You just never know what you're going to get from them game-to-game, or even drive-to-drive within a game.

how about this: Atlanta has 4 million people...........

and CBS can't decide if State/Bama will pull in enough viewers nationally to offset Georgia's population advantage.

With 100K in Atlanta caring about Georgia. I would think Bama has more national pull than Georgia.

Now Auburn vs MSU is another story but us being #1 has to count.

Also remember the Georgia game will feature the return of Todd Gurley. So there is obviously a story line to sell as well. Atlanta + Gurley + #3 Auburn = Lots of national attention.

Surely Gameday will go to Tuscaloosa if Alabama beats LSU this weekend?

Let's hope LSU beats Bama and Gameday can go to GA!

One can hope, but you cant beat a legit Top 5 team without a quarterback.

Hence, LSU has a problem.

Well I don't often have a source, but I did hear that CBS only wants one more Bama game this year, and since they already have the Iron Bowl, we are likely to be the ESPN game next weekend.

Given no source, do you think there's any substance to the rumor? Pretty big...

Well, last time I checked we play pretty well at 100k-seat away venues at Night.

Having been to several of our games at Tuscaloosa, I don't find the place all that intimidating. DWS this year is louder than I've ever heard Bryant-Denny.

Reflecting on being there in 1999 for the divisional showdown, that venue like no other prompts reflections where you question whether you're really big enough for the moment.

Fortunately, I know our guys that'll be on the field are big enough this time.

I don't think so. I've been there several times, and was there for that game, and had no feelings of inferiority. I've never seen us win there, but haven't felt intimidated either.

Has CBS selected the Iron Bowl yet? While I'm aware that it's certainly the most likely selection, nothing I've seen says that's been the pick yet.

I thought that along with the Florida-UGA game were set up preseason. Regardless, that's the one they want that weekend.
