Is it just me, or should the Cardinals...

wish Pujols the best with his 10 year deal from the Marlins?<div>
</div><div>The guy is at least 32 years old. I wouldn't mind seeing the Cardinals offering 5/6x25, but anything beyond that runs the risk of mortgaging the future of the franchise for an aging superstar with declining talents.</div>

There's more to baseball than just making $. Perhaps Albert is just seeing his worth on the market and has no plans on leaving the best baseball city in America. If he signs w/the Miami Marlins, then we'll know what he's about.....if that be the case...good riddance.

I think ablert Pujols is the best baseball player I have ever been able to watch in person, not including pitchers. With that said, even he is not bigger than the team, nor should he ever be.

Wow... I'm a Giants fan so I don't really care where he ends up as long as it's not in the NL West, but that seems crazy. I am not implying that Al has ever juiced but whether he has or not, the steroid era is over for now so the days of being a big time hitter until you're 40 are as well. Other than Berkman, pretty much everyone in the league that hit 30+ HRs last year was in the 26-31 year old age range. That tells me that Pujols is already nearing the end of his prime and he's entering the downside of his career. I get that he's fan favorite, but $220M? All I can say is wow...

Agreed. Historically, numbers decline big-time after 35 or 36. The exception is during the steroid era. Albert can't juice due to the testing (I'm not saying he ever did). I would not want to lock a guy up for 10 years.

He is arguably the best right handed hitter of all time. He has been vastly underpaid for the production he has provided the Cardinals these past 11 years. If he signs for $220m/10yrs that would make his career average 15m per year for his career. right about where he should be.
