or did it seem like the first defender to the ball almost never made the tackle?

It seemed like a problem all year to some degree - is it an issue with having youth on the defense or just not having players that are able to tackle one on one?

It could be the difference between an attacking defense vs a read-and-react defense. Our first guy always seems to be flying at the ball carrier, and if he doesn't make the tackle, he does at least disrupt his running so others can close in. A read and react defender doesn't meet the ball carrier until 5 yards further downfield.

We do, however, have some defensive players who tackle by throwing their bodies into runners instead of using both arms to tackle. I don't like that.
