and fall to 1-3. As wooly as I would like to be, looking at our schedule brings me back to reality. Heck, even KY which is probably one of our best 2 chances for an SEC win just put up 63 points this past weekend and is 2-0.

has gone from fired up to questioning everything. Even people like lifestyle are questioning our offensive "play" and our two headed quarterback monster.

Im not nearly as excited as last week but do think if we can get one of the next two we will be ok.

We knew we had to beat Auburn, otherwise we were facing 1-2 heading into a week against an opponent whom we haven't beaten since 1974. Not to mention we haven't been historically very good in years we haven't beaten Auburn, at least in recent history. Plus we all expected Mullen's offense to be a lot better than it was Thursday. As I've said, if you told me we held them to 17 points I would've thought that game was a blowout.

but a win Saturday night would put an even bigger breeze in the sails, and make last Thursday a distant memory.

I was on wait and see mode before Memphis, then I was catapulted into all-out woolery, now I am back.

Based on my understanding of MSU football, here is how the next 2 games will probably go:

LSU - defense will play stellar aGAIN, offense will not get it done aGAIN - we lose 21-10 (with LSU's points aided heavily by excellent field position from special teams or turnovers, or both).

UGA - offense will finally light it up, but like clockwork our defense turns in a stinker - we lose 38-35.

I really don't see us beating LSU, but I still think we have a chance at home against UGA, especially if Green remains out.

we come out 1-3, it's really not that bad except for the fact we are 1-3. The schedule just sucks.

You're right, though. It was a missed opportunity to make even the most wool-less sixpackers start running scenarios about how we could possibly win the West. I'm not "we lost to Maine" bummed or anything, but there was definitely some air let out of the balloon.

The silver lining is that I think most people are just genuinely upset we lost a game we were competitive in and could have won - and not by some lucky 1 in 100 upset like the Florida game in the Croom years. I know all that matters is the W, but that's a hell of a lot better than being deflated because we just flat out suck.

I'm disappointed for this week, but I remain optimistic. We just have to finally start making the big plays that will win us a big game. I'm still confident we'll get there and haven't given up hope that it will happen this season. There is a lot of football left.

I think it's pure frustration. Another 5-7 season will kill expansion plans for another decade. Even 6-6 will be frustrating for us. We are hungry and it is pure frustration.

Needless to say, I'm not excited now, but I will be watching this Saturday with great enthusiasm.

I invited an LSU fan to my house to watch the game Saturday. I've been avoiding inviting this guy over to watch football for 3 years but it's time to pay the piper. He's our pediatrician and we've made 2 late night runs to his house just this summer to avoid emergency room visits.

Even though he's a friend, he will show no mercy. If/when LSU gets up it's going to be tough.

Always either on top of the world or completely in the dumps. I still think we finish with 6-7 wins, which is what I predicted at the beginning of the season. Good lord people, it's just one game. </p>

We played like **** and were a dropped pass away from taking a team that willchallengefor the West title to overtime and possibly a victory. I think we have a lot of room to improve but for the first time feel like we have the coaching staff and talent to make that improvement.<div>
</div><div>I think we play LSU close because we have a couple more days to prepare for them than they had for us.</div><div>
</div><div>I also think that Georgia is going to limp into Starkville and that will be our upset of the year.</div><div>
</div><div>So we are 2-2comingour of this stretch and 6-6 is alikelyoutcome for this season.</div><div>

that our running game wouldn't suffer without Dixon. Reality has set in for them.

I also think it was a kick in the nuts to see just what we almost had at QB in Cam Newton.

Nowwe are heading to death valley with a questionable running game, questionable qb situation, and still no outside wide receivers that can make plays. Defense has been ok, but the '99 D-line comparisons that many were making seems even more laughable now.

Having said that, Bosie State would be 1-3 with our schedule instead they are ranked #3 in the nation.

if we beat LSU and Georgia. If we're 3-1, I will let my wool grow out again. Since I know we're going to get beat like we always do this weekend, my season pretty much ended last Thursday.

Hell we still have five home games and we got 50% chance or better of winning any of those games. We can win at Houston and Ole Miss. The only game I think we have absolutely no chance of winning is Alabama. Call it wool or what ever, we are very much improve since last year andmany of the teams we play are not improved since lastyear. In fact many of them are not as good. I don't know what it is about Mullen but last he got our team fired up and ready to play every game and I am pretty sure he will be able to do it again. We will be in every game and we will catch a break or two a pull out a win when we don't expect it.

...I couldn't work last week. It felt like 10 years rolling into one game. We had a great opportunity and blew it. I'll be ready Saturday night. I hope the team doesn't feel apathetic like I do this week.

Those are points from offense ONLY - I took out pick 6's, etc. This total is also greatly aided by our big totals vs. Ole Miss and Kentucky last year.

In my opinion, we have only produced 3 good offensive performances out of 9 games: Ole Miss (34), Kentucky (31 - thanks AD) and LSU (26) last year.

We have produced 5 poor performances - Vandy (15), Florida (6), Bama (3) and Auburn09 (17) and Auburn10 (14).

We have 1 average performance - Arkansas (21).

There is really no agenda behind this post, I was just curious because I had the feeling that we have been really shut down by decent defenses, so I looked up the stats and decided to post them.

I thought the line was going to make up for the inexperience at RB, but so far I've been disappointed with both the line and the RBs. And yes, Cameron Newton would have made a HUGE difference for this team.</p>

we arent running the same offense we ran last season and you know that. Our sudden affinity for the pass is killing our run game- not the lack of any RB

I'd like to see Ralph and Ballard get 30 carries between them and let's see what happens

Here is my quote when asked last recruiting season whether I was becoming indifferent about whether we sign Newton (this was when all the Auburn hoopla had worn most of us out):

Auburn. That is the kicker. If he goes to Auburn. GD. He strolls right into Scott Field in 2010 and kicks our asses. That will not be fun. I think I am less concerned about us NOT getting him than I am about Auburn getting him...if that makes sense.

I also agree that the running game sentiment around here this summer was one of my biggest pet peeves.

I think what it ultimately boils down to is that the Auburn game represented the hill we have yet to get over. That Leon Berry drop (among other things, of course) placed us squarely in the "Not There Yet" category. I think we all knew that this year's schedule would be tough to overcome, we just hoped this could be the year where we broke out. I don't think we can expect a breakout year at this point, but I think a bowl game is still in reach.

Of course, if we win in Baton Rouge...I am right back in the sweater making bidness.

We are running the same plays for the most part - I have seen the "Dixon Counter Play" quite a few times. The difference is Ballard and Perkins aren't breaking it off for 8 yards, they are breaking it for 3. I think there is a reason we aren't running them 30 times. They aren't there yet.

I am hopeful we figure it out, because I think there is some talent there to be utilized - but I think you are really taking Dixon's impact and the amazing year he had last year in this offense for granted.

Good lord people, it's just one game.

I was thinking 6-6 with every team on the schedule not named Alabama or Florida as games we would compete in. There is plenty of meat left on the schedule for us to put together the 6 wins. If we are 2-4 after the Houston Game, I'll officially panic. Until then, I'm okay. This game, by no means, was a season killer.

We lost this game by 3 points. +4 points and I guarantee there is an SEC West contention thread on page 1 today.

The fanbase is looking for validation - validation that the program is indeed on the rise.

Mullen has graduated us from blowout losses to nailbiter losses. But as I heard a guy say leaving the stadium, "I'm sick of losing games like this".

The fanbase needs to see some wins. And a wins over a good team once or twice a year.

So yeah, the Auburn game was a letdown. The Auburn loss has moved me from wooly to neutral (not to be confused with apathetic). I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic about beating LSU or UGA. I guess you could call me cautiously optimistic - I think we're capable of winning, but I'm not getting real excited about the possibility.

this year we have thrown 60 passes in 2 games. We have barely even run the read-option because Tyler cant run it. It's a straight hand-off with him in the game. It's simply not the same offense.

I would like to see if we make adjustments (not throwing the ball too much) and I definitely want to see how our WR respond after Auburn. Can't win games if you drop balls...obviously. <div>
</div><div>We are a program on the rise and the players are still learning to how to win ball games. I no longer look at us as a possible dark horse SEC W contender - yes, I was very woolly - but I definitely think we will go bowling, which, in year two, is all that matters. We came into the Auburn game with very lofty expectations and we, as a fan base, cannot let this take the wind out of us. We are what powers the team, we are the wind in their sails. </div><div>
</div><div>Without the craziness of the fans at the UF game last year does anyone think we come anywhere near as close to beating them as we did? I know they didn't have Harvin, but come on, they still had Tebow. The UGA game will be our 6th consecutive sellout. When the hell was the last time we had that many sellouts in a row?? </div><div>
</div><div>A lot of people seem to forget that this is just Year Two in the Mullen era. He has done wonders with Croom's players and he has gotten the heard to the edge of the water, they just have to drink it. We were in a position to win against an Auburn team that is very, very far from bad. They will probably go to a New Year's Day bowl and once all the moving parts synchronize (i.e. Newton comes on as a true passing threat, Dyer gets used to SEC speed) they will be a tough team to beat. </div><div>
</div><div>Although I left the stadium with a sour taste in my mouth, I have had time to vent and I still think that we have a lot of positive coming into Death Valley this Saturday night. We are in Diaz's first year as defensive coordinator and we still have yet to see, in all likelihood, more than half of the playbook he has. He is a great young coach and I think we are going up from here on defense.</div><div>
</div><div>Now if we don't take one from LSU/UGA then I think that there may be a hole somewhere and the ship is sinking. We may still go bowling but it's with a bitter, pessimistic, (Mississippi State) fan base. </div><div>GO DAWGS!!</div>

Because if we had beaten both Auburn and LSU, we'd actually be a legit contender for the West. With losing to Auburn, we've pretty much lost that now, even if we beat LSU.
