Is it not time to move somebody else to Left Tackle?

Clausell sucks, and is going to get Russell killed. Simply put, I am sure that Mullen is a better judge of this than me, and I can tell that Clausell is not ready. Surely somebody else on that team can play that position at least average.

Yes, absolutely to blow up the cohesion along the OL after falling all the way to 8th nationally in sacks allowed.

NVM that South Alabama entered the game top 10 in the country in sacks and is still top 5 in tackles for loss. I'm sure those ridiculous blitz packages had nothing whatsoever to do with Russell getting hit.....

Corey Lemonier, an all-SEC and future first round DE, did not sack Russell a single time. ZERO. That is all I need to know to be positive that Clausell will be fine. But he did hit Mettenberger constantly last night, with at least 3 sacks and a forced fumble on Mett, so LSU should no doubt blow up their OL....

Yeah, but some of that goes back to Russell holding on to the ball just a tad bit too long before he throws or stepping up into the pocket to release. A lot of times, that's not on the line and is just how the game is going to be.

That's good data

I see USA was credited with 6 QB hurries. I wasn't able to see the game, it appears 4 those came from DB's and LB's and 2 from the D-line. I wasn't able to see the game, but how many of those hurries were caused by Clausell's missed assignments?

Peyton Manning was on his back alot last week too. They should no doubt blow up the OL and start over in Denver.

Clausell has been beat a few times, but has performed as well as anyone can expect from a rsSO ESPECIALLY when the bright lights come on. Otherwise, explain to me where the rsSO 4* and highest rated OT in MS in the history of recruiting rankings is still on the bench? A whole bunch of those hits last night were with 2nd and 3rd string OL in the game.

You can deny it all you want and you can continue to make excuses all you want

but he's been hit an awful lot this year.....If it continues, he's going to get hurt....It's not all on the OL, some of it is Russell hanging on to the ball too long but regardless, he's been hit a lot, especially considering the competition we've played and the competition is only going to get better.......

It's not the O-line that causes Russell to end up flat on his back, it's because our receivers can't get any separation from the defenders. Every time Russell threw the ball, there was a white jersey practically on top of the receiver. Russell had plenty of time to throw, but when nobody is open, the defense is eventually going to get to him.

This. Tyler was holding the ball WAY too long yesterday. Even on a couple of our long completions the receivers had to slow down after separating from the defender when the ball hadn't even been released yet. His holding the ball this year is an issue..but yesterday it was as bad as I've seen.

??

We have protected Russell about as well as a team can

Bingo. I'd venture to guess that 95% of those bitching ONLY saw the State game yesterday and didn't/don't bother focusing on what other teams are doing. This gives a completely distorted and inaccurate frame of reference.

They obviously didn't watch the LSU game... where one of the best and most experienced OL in the country allowed Mettenberger to be repeatedly hit and hit hard. Lemonier had at least 3 sacks and one forced fumble in that game. But everyone overlooks the fact that Clausell prevented him from having any measurable effect on Russell in the Auburn game. That game SHOULD have given him some cache to have some "growing pains" in these games and situations that don't much matter. We won't see another SCHEME like Troy and South Alabama until the Ole Miss game. We won't see another DL as talented as Auburns until the Alabama game(and that one is debatable)...

Some people just don't see the improvement with Clausell. At least he's not trying to tackle our backs anymore.

Clausell as a RS-SO is not Sherrod as a Sr, which is what everyone appears to want him to be. It's just not reasonable to expect that. If he was not our best option at the position, he wouldn't be out there. All LT's are going to get beat now and then.

We've had 2 sacks. By contrast Sherrod's OL of 2008 (So. year) had 8 sacks through 4 games. He is doing fine.

Sherrod wasn't that stellar as a sophomore especially towards the end of the season.
